Another e-mailer responds to the suggestion that Nightline will sign off in 2006:

“The notion that the new Nightline is being set up to fail is absurd and insulting to a lot of people trying very earnestly to make it successful. Last April, only moments after Koppel said he was leaving, the dire and incorrect predictions began: the broadcast would be canceled any second…entertainment would take the time period…Ellen Degeneres would take over the time slot. Wrong…wrong…and wrong again. Of course it is easy to sit on the sidelines and snipe. Looking forward to 2007 and beyond.”
