Edwards “Apoplectic” Over Interview Promotion

edwards_8-8.jpgNews of John Edwards affair admission broke onto the cablers just before 3pmET yesterday. Apparently Edwards was not happy about it.

Broadcasting & Cable’s Marisa Guthrie reports the early release from ABC News was at odds with Edwards original hopes — “to control the news cycle by making his admission late on a Friday night when the country was watching the Olympics and the long weekend yawned ahead.”

Writes Guthrie, “According to multiple sources, Edwards was apoplectic that ABC News began promoting the story early on Friday, giving the rest of the media a chance to play catch-up and cite ABC News’ report.”

ABC News spokesperson Natalie Raabe tells Guthrie the agreement was, “promotion of the interview could begin immediately after it was completed.”
