The Senate confirmation hearings for Elena Kagan, the president’s Supreme Court nominee to replace Justice John Paul Stevens, began today at 12:30pmET, with Kagan expected to make her opening statement sometime around 4pmET. The cable networks have been dipping in and out of the opening remarks throughout the afternoon.
The hearings are expected to extend through Thursday.
Meanwhile, General David Petraeus‘ confirmation hearings are set to start tomorrow, meaning that the two high-profile nominees will be questioned by Senate committees at the same time. As Politico reports, the cablers “are planning for a Kagan-Petraeus SPLIT SCREEN.”
It will be interesting to see how coverage of the two sets of anticipated hearings plays out.
