Don’t believe everything you read. Just most of it.

An insider tells TVNewser the rumor reported Monday in Gawker about Rick Kaplan staying at the Early Show and Ben Sherwood taking over as EP of Evening News is off the mark. The network higher-up confirms there have been talks, but that the former ABCer (Sherwood) won’t be helming the Katie Couric broadcast and that the other former ABCer (Kaplan) will return to single-duty as EP of Evening News. The big boss at CBS said as much to Bill Carter in today’s NYTimes: “Rick will eventually go back to the evening news full time, but there’s no timetable for that.”
