Chris Matthews Hosts Event Honoring FathersThe National Father's Day Committee held their 68th annual "Father of the Year" awards lunch today in New York, emceed by MSNBC's Chris Matthews. Recipients ranged from Michael Krzyzewski ("Coach K") to Gen. David Petraeus, who was not in attendance. Also honored was ABC's George Stephanopoulos, who missed the pre-lunch news conference due to some weather delays. We talked to Matthews about what it means to be involved in this event, ABC's upcoming special and more. One tvnewser who graced the Gridiron stage was NBC's Andrea Mitchell, who appeared "in a bear costume introducing a number that lampoons her husband, former Fed chairman Alan Greenspan, to the tune of 'What I Did for Love' from 'A Chorus Line.'" Another was CBS' Bob Schieffer, who "donned a Stetson to play George W. Bush." "He's in the White House now — not my problem now," he sang to the tune of "In the Jailhouse Now." CNN's Soledad O'Brien emceed the event which raised more than $130,000 for NLGJA's annual programs and scholarships. In attendance: Geraldo Rivera, Juliet Huddy, Mike Jerrick, Natalie Morales, Meredith Vieira and her former "The View" co-host Joy Behar; Jeanne Moos, Jane Velez Mitchell, Jenna Wolf, and Alison Stewart; NBC News president Steve Capus, FNC VP John Moody and many more (we had to duck out half way through the event so probably missed some late-comers.) Here are some of the faces in the crowd: Several local newscasters, who headed back to their stations to anchor the 10 or 11 O'Clock shows, were in attendance, including Ernie Anastos and Dari Alexander of WNYW, Sade Baderinwa and Bill Ritter of WABC, and Chris Wragge of WCBS, doing double duty this week for the local station and the network. Two Dans (Rather & Abrams) To Keynote Bulldog Reporter Media ConferenceDan Rather and Dan Abrams will deliver the two keynote addresses at this year's Bulldog Reporter Media Relations Summit. On Monday, May 18 Rather will deliver an address titled "The Future of the News." The following day Abrams, who recently stepped outside full-time journalism and founded media strategy firm Abrams Research, will discuss "The Future of Media Relations."
