HBO’s ‘VICE,’ CNN’s ‘Parts Unknown’ Secure Primetime Emmy Nominations

The nominees for the 2013 Primetime Emmy Awards were announced this morning. All the nominees can be viewed on the Television Academy’s website, but we wanted to highlight a handful of news and information programs that also received some nominations.

CNN’s “Anthony Bourdain: Parts Unknown” received an Emmy nomination in the “Outstanding Informational Series or Special.” “Parts” is up against “Stand up to Cancer,” “Brain Games” on Nat Geo, “Oprah’s Master Class” on OWN and “Inside the Actor’s Studio” on Bravo. “Parts” was also nominated for “Outstanding Writing for Nonfiction Programming,” as well as for cinematography and sound mixing.

HBO’s “VICE” TV program received a nomination in the “Outstanding Documentary or Nonfiction Series” category, an impressive showing in its first season. It is up against “American Masters” and “The Abolitionists” on PBS, “The Men Who Built America” on History and “Through the Wormhole with Morgan Freeman” on Science Channel.

HBO’s faux-TV news drama “The Newsroom” also received some nods, with star Jeff Daniels nominated in the “Outstanding Lead Actor in a Drama Series” category, Jane Fonda for “Outstanding Guest Actress in a Drama Series.
