Heyward On CBS Evening News Revamp: “We’re Making Good Progress”

Producers at CBS News have been “working on a number of interesting ideas this summer,” Andrew Heyward tells USA Today. Les Moonves hasn’t set a “firm timetable” for unveiling a new CBS News, but “Leslie and I have been in constant contact, and we’re going to continue talking between now and Labor Day,” Heyward said. “We’re making good progress.”

Peter Johnson reports: “One pilot for a revamped CBS Evening News, for example, featured correspondent John Roberts anchoring a quick news summary followed by a handful of in-depth, narrative-driven stories and ending with a lighthearted feature — all suitable to be broken up for on-demand offerings on the Web.”
