How Long Is An Exclusive, Exclusive?
CNN’s “Campbell Brown” led their show last night with the first video of Saturday’s mid-air crash over the Hudson River — video that had been obtained by NBC News just a few hours earlier.
The video, shot by an Italian tourist, first aired on WNBC at 6pm, then on MSNBC around 6:10 and on Nightly News at 6:31pmET.
CNN took the airing from MSNBC’s “Ed Show” and John Roberts, in for Campbell Brown, read a short story as the video rolled: “You’re looking at exclusive amateur video that was obtained by NBC News showing the very moment when the small plane clipped the helicopter sending both aircraft plummeting into the water.”
The exclusive crash video also appeared on MSNBC’s 8pm show, “Countdown with Keith Olbermann,” but not until 8:45pm.
“We used it under standard fair use practices,” a CNN spokesperson tells TVNewser. The video has also been excerpted on Fox News today.
