Hume: “I’d Like to Walk Away While I’m Still Doing Okay”

hume_9-5.JPGBrit Hume finished his last convention as a Fox News anchor last night. The Washington Post’s Howard Kurtz talks to the retiring newsman.

“You work quite hard. I’ve got to be in there with my hands. I’m 65, for God’s sake. I don’t want to do all that stuff anymore,” says Hume.

Kurtz also traces Hume’s convention origins, when he started with ABC News in 1976 as a reporter covering protests. “Boy, was I bad,” Hume said.

Of leaving this year, Hume said, “I’d like to walk away while I’m still doing okay and not have people say ‘he was fading,’”
