Jay Mariotti Deletes His Twitter Account

And just like that, Jay Mariotti is off Twitter.

Sports by Brooks points out that Mariotti deleted his account with his less than 3,500 followers even noticing he was gone.

Mariotti first appeared on Twitter at the beginning of the month to announce his departure from Aol Fanhouse.

“Column writing has been a labor of love for 25 years, allowing me to see the world and cover some of the greatest athletes and events in sports,” Mariotti tweeted on Oct. 5. “But it’s time to step back from the daily sportswriting grind and focus on my other media ventures, including a book project.”

Unfortunately, that tweet was the highlight during the two and a half weeks he was on Twitter. In true Mariotti fashion, he rambled on about nonsense and was critical of his followers (“Look at all of you. Serious announcement, psycho reaction. Please, get lives.”).

Good riddance, @jaymariotti.
