John King Set to Take Over “Late Edition”
Last April, TVNewser asked CNN’s John King what he would be doing in February 2009. The New York Times seems to have the answer. Bill Carter reports King is in line to take over anchoring CNN’s Sunday public affairs show, “Late Edition.”
CNN executives would not comment on the decision but they did not deny that the Sunday move to Mr. King had been discussed. At the same time, Mr. Blitzer is close to signing an extension of his CNN contract that would continue his role as the network’s chief anchor for breaking news and political coverage, an executive who has been briefed on the plans said.
King’s current contract with CNN expires at the end of the month. Last May TVNewser’s Gail Shister, spoke with King who’d begun “talking about talking” with CNN execs about a new deal. “My inclination is that I’ll be here. It’s the place I know. It’s the place that knows my strengths,” he said.
