Kings Announcer To Undergo Precautionary Surgery

Los Angeles Kings play-by-play announcer Bob Miller will undergo a precautionary surgical procedure on Friday.

According to the Los Angeles Times, the procedure is not life-threatening and the 71-year-old is expected to spend a few days in the hospital.

The Hockey Hall of Fame media honoree was scheduled to attend a Kings fan fest this weekend and hopes to be healthy in time for the start of the NHL regular season on Oct. 9.

Last season Miller missed his first broadcast since 2002 while recovering from shingles. In his 37 seasons as voice of the Kings, Miller has missed just 21 games.

Los Angeles has been blessed over the years by three of the best play-by-play announcers in their respective sports in Miller, Vin Scully of the Los Angeles Dodgers, and the late Chick Hearn of the Los Angeles Lakers.
