Matt Lauer to Co-Host Beijing Opening Ceremony

Lauer_8.1.JPGThe NYTimes’ Richard Sandomir reports Matt Lauer is being tapped to co-anchor the opening ceremony of the Beijing Olympics alongside Bob Costas:.

Mr. Lauer essentially replaces Brian Williams, anchor of the “NBC Nightly News,” who worked with Mr. Costas at the 2006 Winter Games opening ceremony in Turin, Italy.

Williams replaced Katie Couric, who had been Mr. Costas’s co-host at the 2000, 2002 and 2004 Olympic opening ceremonies.
