TVNewser attended last night’s celebration of the 60th anniversary of Meet the Press. NBC invited program guests from throughout the years. The party was held at the soon-to-be opened Newseum. More than 500 guests — including journalists, political figures, and White House officials past and present — turned out, mingling before a giant video screen which featured MTP clips from the past six decades.
A receiving line facilitated a meet-and-greet with MTP Moderator Tim Russert and his wife Maureen Orth, NBC News President Steve Capus, NBC Universal President Jeff Zucker, and MTP EP Betsy Fischer.
Russert gave a special shout-out to attendee former Sen. Bob Dole, who has appeared on MTP more times than anyone else. Other boldface names, from the political world, at the bash: Sen. Arlen Specter, 1972 Democratic Presidential nominee George McGovern, and Sen. Ted Kennedy, who holds the record for the greatest span between first (1962) and most recent (2007) guest stints.
The NBC/MSNBC troops turned out in force, including David Gregory, Norah O’Donnell, Tiki Barber, Tucker Carlson, Jamie Gangel, Willard Scott, Kevin Corke, Robert Bazell, Amy Robach, Kelly O’Donnell, NBC News political director Chuck Todd, and Andrea Mitchell (with husband Alan Greenspan).
Other TV colleagues also made a showing: FNC’s Greta Van Susteren, FNC’s Molly Henneberg, CBS’ Bob Schieffer, Discovery Channel’s Ted Koppel, and ABC’s George Stephanopoulos.
