Morning Show Ratings: Week of February 17

MorningShowNEWTo regular readers of TVNewser, you know this already because of preliminary data we shared earlier this week, but the “Today” show did, in fact, win last week in the ratings, making it two straight for the formerly dominant network morning show.

During the second week of the Sochi games, “Today” scored a wider viewer lead over “GMA” vs. week one and saw its biggest total viewer gap growth over “GMA” during the second week of any Olympics since at least 1987, when NBC News began collecting Nielsen data. “Today” was up +18% in viewers and up +10% in the demo compared to the Sochi-less same week last year.

It was during this week last year that Robin Roberts returned to “GMA” following bone marrow transplant surgery. The ABC show was down -7% in viewers and down less than -1% in the demo year-over-year. Compared to week two of the 2010 Winter Olympics the ABC show delivered double-digit increases in viewers and the A25-54 demo viewers.

“CBS This Morning” enjoyed viewer growth vs. last year, up +2%, but down -8% in the demo.

The averages for the week of February 17, 2014:

  • Total Viewers: NBC: 5.844M / ABC: 5.590M / CBS: 3.089M
  • A25-54 viewers: NBC: 2.310M / ABC: 2.174M / CBS: 1.045M
