Changes for NBC's DC Correspondents

NBCNews_1129.jpgTVNewser has obtained an internal memo from NBC News president Steve Capus to the NBC News staff. The memo reads, "Effective immediately, Kelly O'Donnell will take on the new role of Capitol Hill Correspondent. She will be joining the producing team of Ken Strickland and Mike Viqueira who continue to provide unparalleled coverage on the Hill. Replacing Kelly at the White House will be John Yang, who has done great work on that beat on the weekends."

O'Donnell replaces Chip Reid who moved to CBS News in August. Back at the White House, David Gregory remains Chief correspondent while new hire Savannah Guthrie picks up Saturday duties covering the President and Kevin Corke is "Sunday White House Correspondent."

Tim Russert and I have some exciting news about our Washington Bureau that we wanted to share with you. Effective immediately, Kelly O'Donnell will take on the new role of Capitol Hill Correspondent. We are thrilled that Kelly will bring her expertise to this important post at this critical time. She will be joining the producing team of Ken Strickland and Mike Viqueira who continue to provide unparalleled coverage on the Hill. Replacing Kelly at the White House will be John Yang, who has done great work on that beat on the weekends. John joins Chief White House Correspondent David Gregory who continues to set the standard for White House coverage. On the weekends, Savannah Guthrie will take on a new role as Saturday White House Correspondent, and Kevin Corke rounds out this incredible group as the Sunday White House Correspondent. This new arrangement really speaks to one of our great strengths at NBC News, and particularly in Washington - our depth. As we head into an election year, there's never been a more important time to have all our bases covered in Washington, and the team that I've described above is unquestionably the best in the business. We are so fortunate to have this kind of talent, seven days a week, available to all the many platforms of NBC News. My congratulations to Kelly, John, Savannah and Kevin on their new roles - and my thanks, in advance, for all their efforts in the coming year and beyond. -- Steve
