Oprah and Phil Knight give audience free Nikes — imprinted with names of Oprah and Phil Knight

Call me old-fashioned, but it’s kind of tacky to give people a present with your name on it, no? But that’s what Oprah Winfrey and Nike founder Phil Knight did during Winfrey’s show on Tuesday, giving the audience free running shoes that had Oprah’s name on the toe and both of their names on the shoelaces. Nice bit of product placement – provided the audience has equally bad taste and is willing to wear shoes that carry free advertising for two of the world’s biggest moguls.

Giving the audience a free pair of Nikes (without crass advertising) was too much to ask?
