SBD: Page Thompson Stepping Down at Golf Channel

Sports Business Daily’s John Ourand reports that Golf Channel president Page Thompson will be stepping down “by the end of the year.”

Ourand reports that Thompson told staff that he will be moving back to Philadelphia before Comcast, which owns Golf Channel, gets final regulatory approval to acquire NBC Universal. NBC Sports & Olympics chairman Dick Ebersol was spotted taking a tour of Golf Channel, which is based in Orlando, earlier this year.

It sounds like Thompson may be in line for a new gig at Comcast, though what that job is remains to be seen. he had been leading the network for the last three years.

Update: B&C‘s Jon Lafayette confirms that Thompson will be getting a more senior job at Comcast.
