Rick Sanchez Gets New CNN Show; ‘Sit Room’ Loses Hour

sanchez2_12-21.jpgRick Sanchez, who currently hosts the network’s 3pmET hour of “CNN Newsroom,” will be getting a new show, titled “Rick’s List” in 2010.

Sanchez’s program will now air for two hours, from 3-5pmET, and Wolf Blitzer‘s “Situation Room” will eventually be reduced from three hours to two, airing from 5-7pmET. Blitzer will also fill-in the 7-8pmET slot until John King‘s show launches early next year.

CNN tells us that Sanchez and Blitzer, appropriately, made the initial announcement themselves over twitter in order to get it out to their followers first (both have well over 100,000).

Today, Sanchez tweeted:

Hey guys, new CNN show beginning Jan 18th, weekdays 3-5pm ET. “Rick’s List”- Who will make the list?

and

Every day “Rick’s List” will be full of newsmakers and thinkers we- and u- think are relevant to CNN. My access = your access.

Simultaneously, Blitzer tweeted:

New SitRoom start time. Beg. mid-Jan, we’re on 5-7p ET. Our excellent team can focus on 2 solid hrs. Less becomes more.

Politico’s Michael Calderone, who reported the news this morning, adds, “CNN president Jon Klein, on the morning editorial call, told staffers that both Wolf Blitzer and Sanchez are pleased with the decision”

The name was derived from a segment on Sanchez’s current show.

Interestingly, it was just a week ago, that MSNBC announced it was moving Dylan Ratigan to its 4pmET slot.
