Rita: What Was Cosby Talking About?

“There’s great consternation at 30 Rock tonight about Rita Cosby,” a tipster said on Friday night. Some of her comments are just plain stupid — like a reference to “50 foot waves” in Galveston, where she reported from today.

But apparently on Hardball she told some sort of story about the last time a hurricane named Rita came ashore. Did she really brag about getting a phone call from an official who told her that “we liked your coverage so much we’re naming a hurricane after you?” After all, that’s not the way hurricane names are chosen. Doesn’t she know that — and doesn’t she know she should avoid embarrassing herself during a category three storm?

“There’s some fear that somebody, maybe Howard Kurtz, is already on this,” the tipster added…

> Update: 12:04pm: An e-mailer adds: “The best (?) part of the Matthews-Cosby is when Chris said she “looked like Dan Rather” reporting from storm. I did a spit take. That was before she gloated over how the weather service guys were “big fans” of hers.”
