New Orleans WLL-TV anchor Rob Nelson has been officially announced as the new co-anchor of ABC’s “World News Now.” He starts July 5th 7th. ABC NEWS NAMES ROB NELSON CO-ANCHOR OF OVERNIGHT NEWSCAST

ABC News announced today that Rob Nelson, morning anchor at New Orleans’ WWL-TV, will join Vinita Nair as co-anchor of World News Now and America This Morning beginning July 5.

A native of southern New Jersey and a graduate of the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, Nelson joined the WWL-TV news team in June 2007 as a morning anchor and reporter. The move to television news was a new venture for Rob, who spent the previous six years covering crime, city government and education for New Orleans’ top newspaper The Times-Picayune.

Mr. Nelson has won several awards for his work, including from the Society of Professional Journalists, the National Association of Black Journalists, the Press Club of New Orleans and the Louisiana Press Association.

In an email to their staff, Early Morning News Senior Producers Ken Kneeland and Jake Whitman said “WWL is one of the industry’s most successful stations in what has become the center of the news universe lately: New Orleans, Louisiana. Rob’s experience anchoring there, along with his strong background in print journalism, make him uniquely qualified and will add a new perspective to our programs.”

Nelson will be taking over for Jeremy Hubbard who was recently promoted to Digital Correspondent for ABC News.
