Roxana Saberi To Be Released from Iranian Jail Today

Roxana_5.11.bmpBreaking: NPR is reporting that jailed Iranian-American journalist Roxana Saberi has had her sentenced reduced and will be released from Evin Prison in Iran. Reza Saberi told NPR News this morning his daughter, “will be free as of today.”

When NPR talked to Reza Saberi this morning, he was on his way to pick up his daughter from Iranian authorities.

In mid-April, Iran’s Revolutionary Court sentenced Saberi to 8 years in prison for espionage. The 32-year-old has reported from Iran for NPR, the BBC, ABC, Fox News and other news organizations.

Saberi grew up in North Dakota and graduated from Concordia College. She was Miss North Dakota 1997 and worked briefly at KVLY-TV in Fargo.

Update: In a news conference this afternoon, Secy. of State Clinton announced Saberi had been reunited with her family and that she would leave Tehran for the United States in the coming days.
