MSNBC’s Chris Matthews commented on the role of cable news in the Schiavo saga: “The numbers of times that our program has shown that woman, her eyes fluttering, [apparently smiling at her parents] — I think that has played a determining factor in this…If we had seen what looked to be a sleeping picture of this woman, comatose, I don’t think we’d be focusing on this tonight.” (Rush quote)
