Sept. #’s: Everyone Is Down Vs. ’05

As the data below demonstrates, ratings for the cable news networks are down compared to the same month last year. (One exception: CNBC is up in total day.)

Ratings for all the cablers spiked last September in the wake of Hurricane Katrina (and the landfall of Hurricane Rita). In Sept. 2005, FNC was up 52 percent, CNN was up 120 percent, and MSNBC was up 70 percent, compared to 2004.

Sept. 2006 was a relatively quiet month, at least compared to last year. CNN showed the greatest losses compared to last year — not surprising since the network is known for gaining viewers during breaking news stories and losing them later.
