,TVNewser was in Boston this weekend as several TV news anchors and contributors took a trip down memory lane.

They gathered at the John F. Kennedy Presidential Library for a panel discussion on the life of Tip O’Neill, the legendary former Speaker of the House who passed away in 1994. Sunday marked 100 years since O’Neill’s birth.

Charlie Gibson – who covered O’Neill in the eighties for ABC News – moderated the forum, which featured reminiscing and story-telling among those who also shared the Tip beat back in the day: Bloomberg’s Al Hunt, ABC’s Cokie Roberts and her husband, writer-broadcaster Steve Roberts, and columnist turned “Morning Joe” contributor Mike Barnicle.

MSNBC’s Chris Matthews, once a top aide to O’Neill, told the audience he was “overwhelmed to have the chance” to be on the Speaker’s staff.

Gibson called O’Neill “an American original” and the “most fascinating” person he ever covered.

The panel discussion was recorded for broadcast January 1 on C-SPAN3.

Bloomberg TV’s election night coverage kicks off at 7pmET Tuesday with a special edition of “Bloomberg Surveillance,” hosted by Tom Keene. Keene will be joined by Sara Eisen and Scarlet Fu  in New York.

Trish Regan will anchor the network’s main election coverage beginning at 8pmET. Regan will be joined by Washington editor Al Hunt and political analyst Matthew Dowd. Bloomberg’s White House correspondent Julianna Goldman will be live at the Obama campaign headquarters in Chicago. Megan Hughes will be in New York and national correspondent Carol Massar will be in Hamilton County, Ohio.

At the Bloomberg Link Monday, a panel of journalists convened to talk about politics and media in the 21st century. During the Q&A portion, a guest asked the panel if the trend of ideological cable news programming was harmful to the public discourse in this country. Opinions were divided.

“You look at those television ratings last week, Fox was off the charts, MSNBC did ok, and there was CNN, which tries to play it straight, and sometimes does so succesfully, but other times is down in the dumps,” said Al Hunt, Bloomberg News Washington editor. “That is what cable news is all about.”

“I guess it is just an extension of this other idea: people go where their ideas are going to be reinforced,” said Washington Post executive editor Marcus Brauchli. “I dont think it is going to change, in some ways it favors those of us who stick to the facts, because a substantial portion of the electorate just wants to know what’s true, and hopefully they will come to us.”

Then there was Ben LaBolt, the national press secretary for Obama for America, President Obama’s re-election campaign.

“I think there are news shows, and other shows,” LaBolt said. “And most networks try to contain that, some networks have a different business model, but you know who you are dealing with, and it is straightforward going in.”

We stopped by Bloomberg’s RNC workspace this afternoon on Harbour Island, just across from the RNC happenings in Tampa. The multi-purpose space serves as an office for Bloomberg News and TV staffers, a studio for “Street Smart,” a place for panel discussions — reps from Google were there today talking tech jobs — and it hosts Al Hunt‘s breakfast series. The architectural design is reminiscent of Bloomberg’s global offices, including fully stocked pantry and virtual fish tank.

Bloomberg TV is the latest network to slate 2012 convention coverage. Not surprisingly, its coverage will focus on economic issues, and will originate from the “Bloomberg Link” event space being set up in both Tampa and Charlotte.

Trish Regan will be the channel’s lead anchor for the conventions, while Charlie Rose will host his eponymous PBS and Bloomberg TV program nightly, in addition to his duties on “CBS This Morning.” Regan will anchor “Street Smart” every weekday from 3-5 PM, with nightly specials running from 9-10 PM each night, except the last night of each convention when it will run from 8-11 PM. The channel will also livestream its coverage online as well as events being held at the Bloomberg Link.

Bloomberg Washington editor Al Hunt, Bloomberg TV political analyst Matthew Dowd, Bloomberg View columnist Margaret Carlson, White House correspondents Hans Nichols and Julianna Goldman, along with chief Washington correspondent Peter Cook and Washington correspondent Meghan Hughes will all contribute to the channel’s coverage.

Voters in 10 states head to the polls tomorrow to weigh in on the next GOP Presidential candidate. Here’s the plan for Super Tuesday coverage on the broadcast and cable news and business networks.

The broadcast networks:

• “Nightly News” anchor Brian Williams will helm a one-hour special on NBC News from 10-11pmET. Williams will also present live updates on the voting results between 7-10pmET as news dictates. “Nightly” will be updated for later feeds throughout the evening.
• Diane Sawyer and George Stephanopoulous will anchor special reports on ABC beginning at 7pmET. “World News” will also be updated for later feeds. At 11:35pmET, Terry Moran will anchor a special edition of “Nightline.”
• On CBS, Scott Pelley will provide live primetime updates throughout the night.

The broadcast networks will kick off special coverage beginning at 9pmET — anchored by Scott Pelley on CBS, Brian Williams on NBC and Diane Sawyer and George Stephanopoulos on ABC. Fox News anchor Shepard Smith will anchor coverage for the Fox Broadcast Network.

• CNN will lead into the president’s remarks with John King and lead out with Wolf Blitzer and Anderson Cooper anchoring special coverage along with King, Eliot Spitzer, and Fareed Zakaria, as well as CNN International correspondents Nic Robertson and Arwa Damon up until the 9pm hour when “Piers Morgan Tonight” begins.

On the broadcast networks, NBC has Brian Williams anchoring along with “Meet the Press” host David Gregory.

ABC has Diane Sawyer and George Stephanopoulos anchoring, joined by a number of correspondents, hosts, and analysts, including Jake Tapper, Christiane Amanpour, Jonathan Karl and Deborah Roberts.

On CBS, “CBS Evening News” anchor Katie Couric will lead the coverage, joined by CBS reporters and analysts.

On the Fox broadcasting network, Fox News Channel’s Shepard Smith will anchor coverage. Smith will be joined by “Fox News Sunday” anchor Chris Wallace and correspondent Wendell Goler.
