TVNewser Gets a Younger — or is it Older? — Sibling

WebMediaBrands, the company that owns mediabistro.com, is acquiring TVSpy.com from Vault, Inc.

“TVSpy fits perfectly into our Mediabistro blog network, which includes TVNewser, the must-read site for coverage of network news,” said our boss WEBM CEO Alan Meckler. “The combination of TVSpy and TVNewser should further ensure our leadership in coverage of local and national broadcast and cable news on air and online.”

TVSpy, once known as Shoptalk, a pre-Internet newsletter covers news, job moves and gossip from local TV stations around the country. It will now become part of our fast-growing network of 18 blogs covering all areas of the media: including advertising, social media, sports media, publishing and the Web.

“TVSpy has been an important part of the broadcast news business for a very long time. We are thrilled that with the WebMediaBrands acquisition TVSpy will be integrated into media blog powerhouse Mediabistro. We are delighted that TVSpy will have the right parent and the right focus to drive the continued growth of this important business,” stated Claude Sheer, CEO of Vault.

Andrew Gauthier continues as Editor of TVSpy joining the editorial team here at mediabistro.com.

Happy Holidays, From The Boss

mediabistro.com has put together its annual holiday video, featuring our founder Laurel Touby (replacing the usual boa for a Santa hat), Jupitermedia CEO Alan Meckler and more. Click the picture for the video:

And after the jump, Touby’s letter looking back at 2008. “Our network of blogs, now 13 strong, continues to ride the line between sassy, serious and news-breaking. TVNewser and FishbowlDC kept a close watch on how the media covered the presidential election; FishbowlNY and FishbowlLA continued to break news and bear witness to all the goings on in the two biggest media and entertainment markets in the U.S.,” she writes.
