CNN Freelancer Honored For War Reporting

Quade_3.16.jpgCNN producer Alex Quade (left, on assignment with U.S. special forces in Iraq in December) joins the ranks of Tom Brokaw, Mike Wallace and Tim Russert as she was honored as this year’s recipient of the Tex McCrary Award For Excellence In Journalism. The CNN freelancer, who has worked with the network for more than 10 years, was honored “for her courageous reporting and honest news coverage”.

As a “one-man-band”, she embeds with elite combat units several months at a time, producing long-form, special series and documentaries.

Quade’s “Wounded Warriors” documentary for CNN Presents exposed the ravages of injuries and the care given to troops in war zones. She has been embedded with every branch of the U.S. military, and spearheaded CNN’s Air Force coverage from a secret air base during the “Shock & Awe” campaign. In addition, her “Military Hero” segments have aired on CNN’s “Lou Dobbs Tonight”.

The Tex McCrary award is presented by recipients of the nation’s highest military recognition, the Medal of Honor. Quade received the award during a ceremony at the Ronald Reagan Presidential Library in Simi Valley, CA last Saturday.
