Juju Chang to be Named ‘Good Morning America’ News Anchor

Chang_12.8.jpgJuju Chang has been offered the job of news anchor for “Good Morning America,” TVNewser has learned from multiple sources.

Chang, who joined ABC News in 1991, has been working on several projects for ABC News magazines, and has been filling in on “Good Morning America Weekend.”

Insiders tell us Chang did not campaign for the job — she and her husband, former NBC News president Neal Shapiro, have three young sons — but rather that executives looked at a compilation of the work she’d been doing for the network, then brought her in for a test with Robin Roberts and George Stephanopoulos last week.

“They felt that she had a certain chemistry with George and Robin,” says an insider. “In the end it basically came down to chemistry.”

Stephanopoulos is widely expected to be named co-anchor of the show, with an official announcement coming later this week. Diane Sawyer‘s last day on the show is Friday.

We’re told in addition to news anchor duties, Chang will contribute stories and segments in the 8amET hour. Much like Chris Cuomo has been doing for the broadcast. A network insider tells us ABC execs are in active negotiations with Cuomo to become co-anchor of “20/20″ and to report for other ABC News broadcasts.

Juju Chang joined ABC News as a producer for “World News Tonight.” She was promoted to correspondent for ABC’s affiliate service Newsone, then returned to the network as a correspondent/anchor in Washington before returning to later New York.

TVNewsers Guest Hosting ‘The View’ This Week

With Elizabeth Hasselbeck on maternity leave, a couple of ladynewsers will be sitting in this week. Mika Brzezinski is in tomorrow and former Fox News anchor E.D. Hill is in Wednesday and Thursday. Wonder if the GMA execs will be watching as they search for a new co-anchor.

This morning, Alexandra Wentworth, AKA Mrs. George Stephanopoulos is guest hosting.

Will Stephanopoulos and Wife Share Guests?

Wentopoulos_3.9.jpgWashington Whispers’ Paul Bedard recently talked with Alexandra Wentworth (aka Mrs. George Stephanopoulos) about the return of her Starz show “Head Case“.

Turns out, the shoptalk at home could turn into guest-swapping.

“I’m always selling George on cross-pollinating guests,” Wentworth tells Bedard. “I mean, Jessica Simpson is a Republican. Wouldn’t you like to know what she thinks about stuff?”

And while most of her guests are of the Hollywood variety, Wentworth likes the idea of adding politcos to her show.

“I would go Rush Limbaugh. I would go Karl Rove – people I would really like to bite into, so to speak,” she says. “I’m going to try next season, I really am. All they can say is no.”
