TV News Crews Head to North Carolina for Hurricane Arthur

Tropical Storm Arthur has strengthened into a category one Hurricane churning up the east coast set to hit North Carolina’s Outer Banks hardest. TV news crews have already dispersed crews to cover the extreme weather this 4th of July.

The Weather Channel will have a number of meteorologists and correspondents reporting live from North Carolina. Sam Champion, Stephanie Abrams, and Mike Seidel will report from Kill Devil Hills; Reynolds Wolf and Raegan Medgie will do live shots from Wrightsville Beach; Dave Malkoff and Ron Blome will report from various Outer Banks locations, and Jim Cantore will report from Salvo, NC.

ABC News Correspondent Matt Gutman will report from Wrightsville Beach, NC. Correspondent David Kerley and NewsOne Correspondent Marci Gonzalez will report from Nags Head, a town in the Outer Banks of North Carolina. ABC weather anchor Ginger Zee will cover the storm from New York City. Tonight, “World News” will lead with Arthur coverage; David Muir substitutes for Diane Sawyer.

NBC News has correspondent Kerry Sanders reporting from Kill Devil Hills, NC. CBS Newspath correspondent Craig Boswell is reporting from Nags Head, NC.

The Ticker: Machado, Bolton, Sandoval

  • After a year as a CNN correspondent based in Atlanta, Alina Machado is being relocated to her native Miami. “Alina’s move back home to Miami, along with her fluency in Spanish, gives us the opportunity for deeper and broader coverage across multiple platforms,” Terence Burke, VP of domestic newsgathering for CNN/U.S., said in a statement.

  • Deirdre Bolton made her first appearance on Fox Business this morning since joining the network last week. Bolton, a former Bloomberg TV anchor, will host a show focused on alternative investments in the 1pmET hour starting later this year. Watch here.

CNN Adds Three Correspondents

CNN is beefing up its correspondent ranks with the addition of three new correspondents.

Pamela Brown, George Howell, Alina Machado

Pamela Brown will become a network correspondent based in New York, where she will primarily report for CNN’s new morning program to be co-anchored by Chris Cuomo. George Howell is joining CNN full-time, where he will become a network correspondent based out of Chicago. Alina Machado will become a correspondent for CNN, CNN en Espanol and CNN Latino, and will be based in Atlanta.

Brown joins CNN from WJLA and NewsChannel 8 in Washington DC, where she was a reporter and Sunday evening anchor. Howell has been a contributor to CNN’s coverage for the last year or so, reporting on the death of Trayvon Martin in Florida. Machado joins CNN from ABC affiliate WSB in Atlanta.
