Snowmaggedon Sounds So Much Cooler Than Nemo

So Nemo, is what we’re calling this? This storm will sound nothing like Ellen DeGeneres as a clownfish (oh wait, she was Dory). Anyway, maybe the Weather Channel can come up with more daunting names next year. Remember Snowpacalyse which hit three years this week? Also Snowmaggedon?

So, what are the networks planning? The Weather Channel had already blown out their reality shows in primetime last night with storm prep coverage. The news and business networks have reporters out in the field.

CNN is planning to be live overnight tonight and into Saturday covering the storm. Chad Myers and Jen Delgado will monitor the storm’s movement from the CNN Weather Center. Reporters and anchors including Jason Carroll, Susan Candiotti, Poppy Harlow, Ali Velshi, Ashleigh Banfield, Zain Asher, Alison Kosik, Mary Snow (appropriately), Gary Tuchman and Brian Todd will be out and about.

Brooke Baldwin anchors overnight coverage from balmy Atlanta. “This is when you know there’s a serious breaking news story,” said Baldwin during 2pmET coverage, “Look at all the pizza boxes at CNN.”

On Fox News, Anna Kooiman and Molly Lyon will report live. The storm has pushed the Saturday morning business block to the afternoon, from 2-4pmET. Kelly Wright and Jamie Colby will continue with live coverage from 10-Noon.

Anderson Cooper and Erin Burnett To Report Live In Primetime For CNN

CNN will be keeping its usual primetime lineup on tonight to cover Sandy, and will be live until the worst of the storm passes, whenever that may be. Anchors Anderson Cooper and Erin Burnett will be reporting in the field tonight across primetime. CNN International will be simulcasting CNN/U.S. from 11AM-2PM and again starting at 4 PM.

The list of correspondents in the field for CNN is after the jump.

Update: HLN is blowing up its primetime lineup to provide hurricane coverage. Those details are also after the jump.

In Covering ‘Occupy’ Protests, Confusion, Misinformation and Police

As we noted earlier, cable news channels and local TV have been busy covering the “Occupy Wall Street” protest here in New York City. Above, you can watch a report from Bloomberg’s Micha Rondeau from Wall Street. Rondeau filed a blog post about trying to get in a position to cover the event:

I saw one man being taken away in handcuffs. I couldn’t see what he did. The people toward the front were the most vocal. It wasn’t that the police weren’t allowing reporters to the front. It was the crowd. Just like a crowd at a rock concert. I only saw one other reporter trying to do a live shot in that crowd.

At the NY Times, Brian Stelter writes about some apparent misinformation spread by WNYW anchor Greg Kelly (who happens to be the son of NYPD Commissioner Ray Kelly):

Ali Velshi and Christine Romans Are ‘Odd Couple’ Authors of ‘How to Speak Money’

TVNewser stopped by a book party for “How to Speak Money,” written by CNN anchors Ali Velshi and Christine Romans, last night.

Romans and Velshi were praised by CNN executive vice president Ken Jautz, who called the pair “the odd couple.”

“No names, but one of them is the kid who always has her homework done — her homework,” Jautz joked. “One of them, the dog always ate the homework. One of them gets a little nervous as the chapter deadline approaches, and one of them doesn’t have that problem because he’s not aware that it’s there.”

“Ali’s very into investing, I’m into budgeting,” Romans said. “Ali is a spender, and I am a saver. So the yin and the yang was there for us.”

Biz Newsers Take a Seat at the Buffett

PRNewser was at the NYSE this morning as Business Wire celebrated its 50th birthday. Business Wire is owned by Berkshire Hathway, which is run by Warren Buffett, which means the business media were down on the floor, clamoring for an interview with the oracle of Omaha, who also rang the opening bell. Andrew Ross Sorkin conducted CNBC’s interview. Liz Claman interviewed Buffet for FBN. (Interestingly, this Reuters story on FoxBusiness.com, cites the CNBC interview). CNN’s Alison Kosik interviewed Buffett live in the 11amET hour and Betty Liu stepped up to Buffett for Bloomberg.

CNN Produces Markets Special at 3pmET

CNN — which, unlike FNC and MSNBC does not have a sibling business channel — will devote its 3pmET hour today to special coverage on global financial markets leading up to the closing of the U.S. markets. Ali Velshi, Alison Kosik and Richard Quest take part in the hour anchored by Brooke Baldwin. The hour will be simulcast on CNN International.
