The video shows the late Harvard Law professor Derrick Bell being introduced and embraced by Barack Obama at a rally. After playing the video and debating its merit, O’Brien asked Pollak: “If your bombshell is that Derrick Bell is a radical … is that what you’re trying to say? I’m just trying to understand what the bombshell is, because I haven’t seen a bombshell yet.”

“The bombshell is happening right here on this program,” said Pollak, “Where we have a story and you’re not interested in telling your viewers who Derrick Bell actually is.” Watch:

BuzzFeed founder Jonah Peretti was in our mediabistroTV studio today for an upcoming Media Beat interview and he shared his thoughts on Andrew Breitbart, who died Thursday morning.  Peretti worked with Breitbart in launching The Huffington Post.

“It’s easy for internet commenters to say, you now, ‘It’s good he’s dead and look at all the damage he’s done,’” Peretti said. “But it’s harder when you’ve met someone to feel that way.”

While it makes for a good story, a source familiar with Weiner’s plans tells TVNewser that it is utter fiction. Weiner–who has been laying low since leaving office, and just became a new father–has not been talking to CNN about hosting a show, and would “never” host a program with the man that helped remove him from office, the source says.

CNN also told Politico’s Dylan Byers that the story was “totally false.” The author of the Daily Mail story defended himself to Byers, saying that he was just reporting what Breitbart was telling friends.

While the Weiner-Breitbart “Crossfire-esque” program wasn’t realistic, the possibility of Breitbart joining CNN in a paid capacity may have been. A source at the channel says that Breitbart was believed to be having discussions about joining in a paid role, though it would likely have been as a political analyst.

Update: CNN tells me that it was not considering Breitbart for a paid position at the network.

Over the last few years, despite his disdain for the mainstream media, Breitbart had become a regular on cable news, taking a conservative stand, defending his latest scoop or just taking part in the conversation. His last national appearance was Tuesday night with Piers Morgan following results of the Arizona and Michigan primaries. “I’ve cleaned up and got my hair into an aerodynamic fashion for you,” Breitbart joked with Morgan.

FNC reported Breitbart’s death at 9:33amET and began a conversation for the next half hour with several of their anchors and contributors including Sean Hannity: “He had a level of courage that is really almost unmatched today in media;” Greg Gutfeld: “He is leaving a powerful legacy. He will be a legend.” Tucker Carlson: “I talked to him last night, seemed totally exuberant as he always does.” And Monica Crowley: “I have known very few people in my life who lived life to the hilt the way Andrew Breitbart did.”

CNN reported the news at 9:34am. CNN conservative contributor Erick Erickson phoned in at 10:19. “He really is like a super nova who has gone dark,” said Erickson. Another CNN contributor, Dana Loesh phoned in at 10:40. Loesch is the editor of Breitbart’s Big Journalism site. “Once you got to know him… to know him was to like him. Regardless of what you thought about his politics.”

MSNBC reported the breaking news at 9:41. Breitbart’s politics did not align with the political leanings of MSNBC, which may be why he always seemed to relish his appearances with anchors including Martin Bashir and Dylan Ratigan, and, when he was with MSNBC, David Shuster. Because of their contentious nature, those interviews often made headlines.

Breitbart, who was prolific on Twitter, sent his last Tweet at 11:26 PT, about 40 minutes before he was pronounced dead at UCLA Medical Center. It was a response to a blogger in Louisiana: “I called you a putz cause I thought you were being intentionally disingenuous. If not I apologize.”

Breitbart was a regular guest on the cable news circuit, having appeared on CNN just this past Tuesday. He was on Fox News two and a half weeks ago.

Update: As of 9:45 AM, Fox News is the only cable channel to cover Breitbart’s death, and has brought on Tucker Carlson and Greg Gutfeld to talk about their former colleague.

Like ABC, Hannity got Broussard’s name from Andrew Breitbart — also a guest on “Hannity” last night — whose relentless coverage of this story culminated in Weiner’s public admission yesterday.

Hannity sat down with Broussard at the Fox News studios last night around 7pmET. The show aired short clips of the interview and will air the entirety, tonight.

This morning on “GMA”, conservative author Ann Coulter — also on “Hannity” last night — gave credit to Cuomo and his team for their reporting. “Congratulations to ABC. You guys own the Weiner story. You did all of the reporting.”

How that interview came to pass, however, is almost as interesting as Weinergate itself. The news is buried toward the bottom of the first page of ABCNews.com’s story:

Broussard said she confided about her experiences with several close friends, including one with Republican political ties. The man, whom she declined to identify, encouraged her to share her story with Matt Drudge and conservative blogger Andrew Breitbart.

Breitbart, who first published details of Broussard’s story on Biggovernment.com, shared her identity with ABC News.

ABC News then contacted Broussard and licensed a handful of photos from her.

If you were watching Fox News, CNN or MSNBC around 4pmET today, you saw the same story, reported three different ways.

First, let’s back up to this morning when conservative author Andrew Breitbart posted new images purported to be of Rep. Anthony Weiner (D-NY) on his blogs. By the early afternoon, after the new pictures had cascaded through the political/media blogosphere, Rep. Weiner called a news conference for 4pm in New York City.

But at 4pm sharp — instead of Weiner speaking to the assembled press at the New York Sheraton, Breitbart took to the stage. CNN’s Mary Snow, at the news conference, called it “a little bit surreal.”

Surreal for viewers at home, too, as each news channel covered Breitbart’s comments differently. Fox News, for the most part, kept the audio up, allowing viewers to listen to what he was saying, as Neil Cavuto and Bret Baier anchored. CNN kept the live picture of Breitbart up, but did not carry the audio as Snow and anchor Brooke Baldwin discussed what was happening. MSNBC only took the image of Breitbart as he left the podium at 4:12pm. “I’m told that Andrew Breitbart may have hijacked the Anthony Weiner news conference,” said anchor Dylan Ratigan.

Breitbart’s message: I’m vindicated.

Weiner’s message — when he turned up at the podium at 4:25pmET:  I lied.

Weiner admitted that he’d taken pictures of himself and sent them via Twitter; he apologized to his wife and family and the women he’d sent the photos to. He said he did not break any laws or violate the Constitution of the U.S. and therefore will not resign his Congressional seat. He left the podium at 4:52pm.

The conversation kicked off with a clip from Andrew Breitbart‘s interview with Martin Bashir Wednesday.

“MSNBC. I mean how long does that stay in business like that?,” asked Beck. “The ratings are abysmal. I don’t know how long they go with it. Comcast is a good company. I don’t know how long they go,” said O’Reilly.

One issue that did not come up: Beck’s battle with Fox News host Mike Huckabee. Because we all know who can’t stand shooting inside the tent.

Andrew Breitbart went on Dylan Ratigan‘s MSNBC show Tuesday. Critics say Ratigan was soft. Breitbart returned to MSNBC Wednesday to tape an interview with Martin Bashir, who wasn’t soft at all. In between there was an interview with former MSNBC anchor David Shuster on the radio show of former MSNBC host Bill Press. That wasn’t so soft either. In fact, Shuster mostly called out Ratigan for his interview. Shuster and Breitbart have a history. It all came to a head last night as Breitbart went on very comfortable turf on FNC’s “Red Eye.” Comfortable enough that he recalled the whole MSNBC episode with some insider details.

But what host Greg Gutfeld really wanted to know was why James O’Keefe did this.

Breitbart, who is promoting “Righteous, Indignation” has also been on with CNN’s Eliot Spitzer and HLN’s Joy Behar this week.

Keith Olbermann gave ABC News the bronze in ‘World’s Worsts’ last night (video after the jump), the Twittersphere’s been buzzing all day, and the Washington Post now reports ABC News insiders are none too pleased either. “This blindsided a good portion of the team here,” a source emailed WaPo’s Greg Sargent. “And not in a good way.”

Andrew Morse, executive producer of ABC News Digital, was forced to explain Breitbart’s role today. He is a participant in an election night Town Hall to be streamed on ABCNews.com. “There has been considerable consternation and misinformation regarding my decision to ask him to participate,” says Morse, explaining: “Mr. Breitbart is not an ABC News analyst. He is not an ABC News consultant. He is not, in any way, affiliated with ABC News. He is not being paid by ABC News. He has not been asked to analyze the results of the election for ABC News.”

ABC News has anchor David Muir and Facebook’s Randi Zuckerberg (big sis to Mark) at the Town Hall at Arizona State University. They will be contributing to ABC News’ TV coverage Tuesday night. Breitbart will not.
