The Breitbart-Ratigan-Shuster-Bashir affair … to sell books

Try to keep up.

Andrew Breitbart went on Dylan Ratigan‘s MSNBC show Tuesday. Critics say Ratigan was soft. Breitbart returned to MSNBC Wednesday to tape an interview with Martin Bashir, who wasn’t soft at all. In between there was an interview with former MSNBC anchor David Shuster on the radio show of former MSNBC host Bill Press. That wasn’t so soft either. In fact, Shuster mostly called out Ratigan for his interview. Shuster and Breitbart have a history. It all came to a head last night as Breitbart went on very comfortable turf on FNC’s “Red Eye.” Comfortable enough that he recalled the whole MSNBC episode with some insider details.

But what host Greg Gutfeld really wanted to know was why James O’Keefe did this.

Breitbart, who is promoting “Righteous, Indignation” has also been on with CNN’s Eliot Spitzer and HLN’s Joy Behar this week.

Former MSNBC Anchor David Shuster Trades Barbs With Dylan Ratigan Over Andrew Breitbart Interview

Conservative activist, author and pundit Andrew Breitbart is making the media rounds in New York this week. He spoke with CNN’s Eliot Spitzer and MSNBC’s Dylan Ratigan yesterday.

The Ratigan interview caught the attention of former MSNBC reporter/anchor David Shuster, who criticized on Bill Press’s radio show (audio here) this morning, and has since taken his criticism to Twitter:

Ratigan responded to Shuster’s — and other — complaints via his own Twitter account:

ABC News Drops Andrew Breitbart from Midterm Election Coverage

ABC News has dropped conservative blogger and commentator Andrew Breitbart from its midterm election coverage.

Breitbart was scheduled to appear as a commentator on the network’s “digital town hall” on ABCNews.com and Facebook. He also said he would appear in a limited fashion on the broadcast network, a claim which ABC News disputed.

This afternoon, the network sent Breitbart the following letter from ABC News Digital chief Andrew Morse:

Dear Mr. Breitbart,

ABC News Clears the air about Andrew Breitbart’s Participation in their Election Night Coverage

It didn’t take long, after conservative author, commentator and webtrepreneur Andrew Breitbart announced he would be participating in ABC News’ election night coverage, for the pitchforks to come out.

Keith Olbermann gave ABC News the bronze in ‘World’s Worsts’ last night (video after the jump), the Twittersphere’s been buzzing all day, and the Washington Post now reports ABC News insiders are none too pleased either. “This blindsided a good portion of the team here,” a source emailed WaPo’s Greg Sargent. “And not in a good way.”

Andrew Morse, executive producer of ABC News Digital, was forced to explain Breitbart’s role today. He is a participant in an election night Town Hall to be streamed on ABCNews.com. “There has been considerable consternation and misinformation regarding my decision to ask him to participate,” says Morse, explaining: “Mr. Breitbart is not an ABC News analyst. He is not an ABC News consultant. He is not, in any way, affiliated with ABC News. He is not being paid by ABC News. He has not been asked to analyze the results of the election for ABC News.”

ABC News has anchor David Muir and Facebook’s Randi Zuckerberg (big sis to Mark) at the Town Hall at Arizona State University. They will be contributing to ABC News’ TV coverage Tuesday night. Breitbart will not.

Parker Spitzer Premieres on CNN

Last night CNN premiered its new 8 PM show, “Parker Spitzer.” The duo promised a different sort of cable news show, with pundits that would be unlike the ones you see on the other networks

“The one thing we don’t want is for someone to turn on the TV and say ‘oh yeah, I have seen him or her 18 times in the past week,’” Eliot Spitzer told TVNewser last week.

Did Andrew Breitbart, Henry Blodget, Elizabeth Warren and Aaron Sorkin meet that goal?

What did you think of the show’s debut? Let us know in the comments.

Andrew Breitbart and former House Republican Leader Dick Armey will join Beck for the event which is hosted by the United Republican Fund, the Illinois GOP and the Midwest Tea Party Coalition.

Andrew Breitbart Thinks Big: ‘I’ll have a network, I’m sure I will’

Breitbart_9.13.jpgBigGovernment, BigJournalism, now Andrew Breitbart is really thinking big.

He wants to start his own TV network, beyond his Breitbart.tv. According to Politico:

Speaking to thousands of receptive tea party activists at the 9/12 rally on Washington’s National Mall, Breitbart complained about mainstream media coverage of a July NAACP resolution that said some elements of the tea party are racist. The provocateur said the TV network he creates would explore, for instance, whether CBS Evening News anchor Katie Couric is a racist because of where she vacations.

“What would you do, Katie, if you woke up and you saw on your competitor’s channel: ‘Let’s talk about whether or not Katie Couric is racist’? I think she’d be pissed off.” he told the crowd. “We are a citizen journalism army, and we are going to take this country back.”

After the speech, Breitbart told Politico, “I winged that one. It’s a goal. Every boy can have a dream. I can’t middle relieve for the Dodgers anymore, so I want to have my own news network.”

“I’ll have a network, I’m sure I will,” he added, “I’ll figure that out. I’m not that worried about it.”

Ali Wentworth thinks Shirley Sherrod should ask Pres. Obama for Secy. of Ag. Job

View_7.22.jpg

Fired, maybe rehired, Deptartment of Agriculture employee Shirley Sherrod continues to make the rounds, showing up this morning on “The View.”

HLN/”The View”‘s Joy Behar thinks Andrew Breitbart owes her an apology. “I have heard not one word from him,” said Behar. Elisabeth Hasselbeck thinks so too: “Obviously there should be some face-to-face apology to you.” Sherrod: “I think he should.”

Meanwhile, guest co-host Ali Wentworth (aka Mrs. George Stephanopoulos) thinks Sherrod should go straight to the top.

Wentworth: Can I give you some advice? When you meet with Obama next week at the White House, ask for the position of Agriculture Secretary. I think you’d be great at it.

Behar chimed in, “That’s how George Stephanopoulos got the job on “GMA.”

David Shuster Interviews Andrew Breitbart and Eric Boehlert About James O’Keefe Arrest

MSNBC_1.28.jpg

On his MSNBC show this afternoon, David Shuster, anchoring from Louisiana, dove headlong into the coverage of the arrest of anti-ACORN video producer James O’Keefe, and three others earlier this week.

In back-to-back interviews, Shuster talked with Andrew Breitbart who published O’Keefe’s videos on his site, Big Government. Breitbart also reportedly pays O’Keefe a salary.

Shuster then interviewed Eric Boehlert of Media Matters for America, a Website that monitors conservative media.

Before the interview, Breitbart Tweeted, “I expect Shuster ambush. Already know its on ‘money trail’. But what other MSNBC gems can be expected now that Watergate Jr. is imploding?”

Shuster has been accused of having a bias in the story when he Tweeted his thoughts about what will happen to O’Keefe. “You will go to prison,” Shuster wrote. It was commentary that has drawn the ire of his MSNBC bosses.

In terms of balance, Breitbart got a lot more time for his side during the MSNBC interviews — about 7 minutes. Boehlert got about 3 minutes.

O’Reilly: ‘I Am Exhausted by these Ideologues Masquerading as TV Critics’

Tonight, FNC’s Bill O’Reilly went after Baltimore Sun TV critic David Zurawik over a blog post he wrote on Friday. Zurawik criticized O’Reilly and fellow Fox News host Sean Hannity for their interviews with ACORN video star Hannah Giles and Andrew Breitbart on whose site, BigGovernment.com, the videos appeared. ACORN is now suing them alleging they violated Maryland’s two-party consent law. One of the videos was shot in ACORN’s Baltimore office.

In his post Friday, Zurawik wrote, “Only on the cube-sided Bizarro Planet are [James] O’Keefe and Giles champions of the First Amendment.” Tonight, O’Reilly fired back:
