Rockefeller — NBC Sports chief Mark Lazarus predicts, “We believe we’ll be profitable in Sochi.” NBC lost $223 million on the 2010 Vancouver Winter games, and made $88 million on the London Summer games.

• The Weather Channel’s Stephanie Abrams and “LIVE’s” Kelly Ripa will be among the runners taking part in the Empire State Building Run-Up tonight, a race up the 86 floors of New York City’s most famous office building.

• Tuesday is the season finale of HBO’s “Real Sports with Bryant Gumbel,” and the venerable sports newsmagazine is forgoing its usual format for a round-table look at the year that was. Gumbel will join panelists Bernard Goldberg, Mary Carillo, Andrea Kremer, Frank Deford and Jon Frankel in discussing sports in 2012. The panel will also include Armen Keteyian, who is leaving “Real Sports” to join “60 Minutes of Sports” on Showtime next year.

• Not content to simply name winter storms, The Weather Channel is launching a Winter Storm Index called “Storm: Con,” which will grade winter storms on severity in a 1-10 scale. 1-5 aren’t too bad, but if a 6-10 is coming… watch out.

• MSNBC’s Lawrence O’Donnell is interviewed by the Wall Street Journal about his work with UNICEF. He has been active in raising money for schools in Africa.

• Peter Rippon, the head of BBC’s signature program “Newsnight” is the first executive to step aside amid the widening scandal involving Sir Jimmy Savile, the beloved BBC showman now accused of more than 200 incidences of sexual abuse. “Newsnight” had killed an investigation into Savile, who died last year.

• FBN’s Melissa Francis celebrates her 100th episode of “Money” tomorrow anchoring live from the TD Ameritrade conference in Dana Point, CA.

• Armen Keteyian has been named a fulltime correspondent for Showtime’s “60 Minutes Sports” while continuing to contribute to CBS News. “60 Minutes Sports” is being produced by the “60 Minutes” team and will debut on Showtime in January.

The show included Steve Kroft’s report on the collapse of Lehman Brothers, Kroft’s sixth report on the financial crisis since its early days in Sept. 2008. Keteyian and SI contributing writer Jeff Benedict traveled to Compton, CA to get a look at the intersection of gangs in sports at three local high schools. Keteyian and Benedict rode along with a supervisor in the LA Sheriff’s Department’s Gang Unit. He’ll also profile several high school stars fighting to avoid the violence in the streets as they try to break into top college football programs.

Mike McQueary, currently an assistant coach for Penn State who was a grad assistant when he walked in on Sandusky and a young boy in the showers, will speak to Armen Keteyian on the “CBS Evening News.”

Update: Following the Sandusky and Giffords interviews, the McQueary interview was a disappointment. Lasting only 20 seconds, McQueary didn’t reveal any new or interesting information.

Well, seven months later, Dibble is coming clean on the reason why he’s not with the network.

“Listen, it’s their team, they acted in their own interests,” Dibble told FoxSports.com columnist Mark Kriegel. “And I’m gonna tell you something that I’ve never told anybody before. It was basically Strasburg’s father [who] e-mailed the owner and basically was offended by what I said. Now remember, I said that on my own radio show on another network, and his father e-mailed the owner and the owner wanted me out of there. so that’s the bottom line. So that should end it. I want Stephen to go on, never have my name brought up and have a great career. I had a great career, I had fun, had a great seven years, and it’s sad for me that people still associate me with him. “60 Minutes” was the fourth most-watched program on all of television for the week, its highest spot on that ranker in nearly a year. It was the fifth time in the last nine weeks the show has cracked the Nielsen top 10.

Rep. Mitchell chaired a hearing on Capitol Hill today examining the VA’s suicide prevention outreach efforts.

In his press release following the hearing (after the jump), Mitchell cites two reports from CBS News correspondent Armen Keteyian. The first in late 2007 documented the alarming rate of veteran suicides. Another, in July, 2008, about the launch of the PSA, featuring actor Gary Sinise, which was part of a three-month test to determine its effectiveness.

In response to a CBS News investigation on untested rape kits, the San Antonio Police Department made a major announcement: it will now test all rape kits in stranger cases and will also go back and test all untested stranger rape kits in storage.

San Antonio Police Chief William McManus began the Monday press conference by saying, “We are here this morning to talk about the CBS story about the rape kits.” He told reporters, “We don’t want to let any case where somebody was sexually assaulted fall through the cracks…We want to raise the potential that person is going to get caught by pulling them into a database.”

“How is this good?” asked a “48 Hours” source about the “Evening News” probe. But an “Evening News” source said the probe was spurred by a desire to avoid sitting on the sidelines while other media feast on the scandal. “CBS cannot be seen to be burying its head in the sand,” the source said.

The Post reports Keteyian has already conducted several background interviews “in the news department.”
