’48 Hours’ To Air Video Diaries From Mexican Jail

FRICaptureCBS News gave former reality show producer Bruce Beresford-Redman a GoPro camera to document his life behind bars. For the last four months, Beresford-Redman has recorded a video diary of his experience inside Benito Juarez prison in Cancun.

Beresford-Redman is on trial for the 2010 murder of his wife Monica. He’s been in prison for the last three years. ”48 Hours” correspondent Troy Roberts has been following the case from the beginning and arranged with prison guards to give Beresford-Redman the GoPro. CBS tells us no money exchanged hands; not to Mexican authorities nor to the accused killer.

“For many years I worked in reality TV and the reality of reality television, even at its best – it’s a world that’s created,” Beresford-Redman says. “Being here is real. It’s real.”

Beresford-Redman remains incarcerated with upwards of 10 others in a 12 x 15-foot cell designed for three people. He describes the Mexican prison system as a dirty, rat-infested village with razor wire around it. There are about 1,800 men, women and some children living in a prison originally built for 700 people.

“It is almost impossible to live in the present because the present is just absolutely miserable,” he says.

Beresford-Redman’s video diary will air as a special “48 Hours: Prison Diaries” tonight at 8pm ET.
