CNBC Shelves Weekday ‘On The Money’ For the Second Time

TVNewser has learned CNBC is moving its personal finance show On The Money to a one night a week run, on Saturday nights.

The show, hosted by Carmen Wong Ulrich, had been airing weekdays at 10pmET. We hear CNBC documentaries will now run at 10.

This is the second time a show called On The Money has been removed from CNBC’s weekday schedule. Former CNBCer Dylan Ratigan, and later Melissa Francis, anchored an iteration of the show until September, 2007. The title was re-purposed and turned into a personal finance show last summer.

> CNBC’s “On the Money,” hosted by Carmen Wong Ulrich, is moving to 10pmET beginning tomorrow. Taking over the 9pmET spot will be a rotation of CNBC’s original longform programs.

> The Aaron Brown-anchored PBS show “Wide Angle,” is adding a new online exclusive series of documentary shorts today. The first episode of “Focal Point” is titled “From Jihad to Rehab,” and takes viewers inside a rehab center in Saudi Arabia.

CNBC Spends End of Week at 30 Rock

At the end of another week of financial crisis, CNBC talent was all over the NBC mothership. Erin Burnett kicked off the Today show yesterday with breaking news about the declining Dow futures.

Carl Quintanilla appeared at the beginning of the NBC Nightly News to discuss the day’s market movement, and Phil LeBeau was on later.

This morning, Trish Regan, Sharon Epperson and Carmen Wong Ulrich were on Saturday Today.

• Squawk Box begins an hour early at 5amET on Monday.

CNBC Spends Sunday on the Network

After a very turbulent week on Wall Street, CNBC anchors and correspondents were seen throughout the broadcasts on NBC this morning.

Erin Burnett, Steve Liesman and John Harwood guested on Meet the Press today. Earlier Harwood interviewed Sens. John McCain and Barack Obama about the financial crisis, which will air tonight on CNBC.

On Weekend Today, Carl Quintanilla filled in as guest co-anchor. Trish Regan, Scott Cohn and Carmen Wong Ulrich appeared on a panel about the government bailout and Sharon Epperson appeared as well.

• Related: CNBC president Mark Hoffman is interviewed by Multichannel News’ Mark Robichaux about the week. Asked about the competition from FBN, he says: “We’re focused on what we do. We have a brand promise that we make, and that is that we’re fast, accurate, actionable and unbiased. We try to bring, despite 20 years of experience this coming April 17, we bring a startup mentality every day.”

Is CNBC Bringing Back “On the Money?”

A TVNewser tipster noticed something recently during CNBC’s prime time. Just before the top of the hour, Carmen Wong Ulrich has been anchoring short segments branded “On the Money.” Wong Ulrich also writes a personal finance blog that goes by the same name. “On the Money” was a prime time show on CNBC until a programming shake-up took it out of the lineup last September.

So, you have to wonder if moving Susie Orman to 8pmET starting this Monday is really just a place holder until the revamped “On the Money” is ready for air, perhaps in August.

Anyone have ideas?
