Atlanta Snow Snarls Commute for CNN Staffers

Atlanta-based CNN staffers ran into some traffic problems caused by the winter storm during their commute yesterday. On Twitter, Carol Costello detailed the experience of being stuck in the CNN parking lot for an hour before finally giving up and going back inside.

Costello explained in more detail on Facebook, writing that “people in, say Chicago, would laugh at the utter chaos this has caused.”

I tried to get out of CNN’s parking lot at 1:00. After waiting in a line of departing employees for an hour I gave up. Luckily other co-workers did too. We waited together for two hours until the traffic cleared. Except it never did. I left work again at 5 (I get up at 4am) and got out of the parking lot. I live two miles away. It took me two hours to get home. I saw no salt trucks. No plows. No police directing traffic. I feel lucky though. Some people are still stuck in traffic. Kyra Phillips was stuck for 7 hours. Mr Mayor, what the hell?

Costello confronted the director of Atlanta’s emergency management agency over the city’s response to the weather on CNN this morning, the Huffington Post points out.

CNN Changes: ‘Around the World’ Canceled; John Berman, Michaela Pereira Add 11am

MalveauxWorldCNN is changing up its daytime schedule, replacing the NoonET “Around the World” co-anchored by Suzanne Malveaux and Michael Holmes with “Legal View with Ashleigh Banfield.” Banfield’s move from 11am to Noon makes room for a new show co-anchored by John Berman and Michaela Pereira at 11amET. Berman and Pereira will continue their roles on “Early Start” and “New Day.”

The international news-focused Noon hour took shape in the summer of 2012 as “International Newsroom.” At the time, Malveaux had anchored two hours of CNN’s early afternoon hours from Atlanta. She will return to Washington as CNN’s national correspondent. Her return to D.C. allows her to better care for her mother, who suffers from ALS.

Holmes will return full-time to CNN International and continue to anchor “International Desk,” which airs weekdays at 10amET on CNNI.

Carol Costello continues anchoring from 9-11am, Berman and Pereira pick up at 11am, Banfield is at Noon, Wolf Blitzer continues to anchor an hour from Washington at 1pm and Brooke Baldwin anchors her two hours from Atlanta, beginning at 2pmET.

CNN Examines Media Coverage of 2013′s Biggest Stories

On “CNN Newsroom” this morning, Carol Costello hosted a panel discussion about media coverage of two of the year’s biggest stories: the George Zimmerman trial and the Boston Marathon bombing.

The panel was made up of CNN senior media correspondent Brian Stelter, Steve Malzberg from the conservative Newsmax and Eric Boehlert from the liberal Media Matters. Although Boehlert mentioned Fox News’ coverage of the Zimmerman trial, the three mostly steered clear of mentioning CNN’s competitors by name. The panel also didn’t address CNN’s coverage of the two stories. Watch:

What do you think of the television news coverage of the Zimmerman trial and the Boston Marathon bombing? Let us know in the comments (but keep it civil, please).

Jon Stewart Looks At CNN’s Fascination with ‘Good Thing or Bad Thing’

On the Daily Show last night, Jon Stewart discovered a trend on CNN wherein the anchors put a choice to their guests, whether something, anything — the Washington Post being sold, a bank takeover, Casey Anthony on the stand — is “a good thing or a bad thing.”

“Everybody plays along, everybody except Carol Costello, the rebel.” Watch:

CNN Anchor Stands By Tweet Critical of Rush Limbaugh Children’s Book

On Twitter Thursday, CNN daytime anchor Carol Costello added her thoughts to @HuffPostMedia‘s Tweet about Rush Limbaugh writing a children’s book. Costello wrote: “I’m a little sick now.”

That has since been deleted from Costello’s account. (A CNN spokesperson tells us Costello didn’t delete it, but they’re not sure how it was removed). Either way, Costello stands by what she wrote, the spokesperson says.

Costello and Limbaugh have a past. In July, Limbaugh’s hour-long sit-down with Greta Van Susteren on Fox News became news on CNN, which then became fodder on Limbaugh’s radio show. Limbaugh called Costello, “the former Rush stalker. Before she was an anchor, she was a reporter, and she had the Rush beat…”

But it goes back even further. In 2009, after Costello did another CNN segment involving Limbaugh, Rush said Costello should, “go sit on a fire hydrant and improve your day.”

Limbaugh’s book for kids, “Rush Revere and the Brave Pilgrims: Time-Travel Adventures with Exceptional Americans,” will be released October 29.

CNN’s Carol Costello Mugged In Atlanta

CNN anchor Carol Costello was the victim of a mugging in Atlanta. Costello wrote about the incident on her Facebook page.

I was robbed.
And I am angry.
I was walking down a beautiful, leafy Atlanta street, talking on my IPhone.
Guess what happened next?
Three teenagers ran up behind me. One of them grabbed my IPhone. Stupidly I struggled to hold on-to it. But, he was a big guy. And he pulled out a chunk my hair.
I let go.
As he ran down the street, laughing, I hurled a few expletives his way.
I felt no fear at the time, I was just angry. Now I’m angry, shaken and sad. What a lousy life those kids have ahead of them.
