Kurtz: Carrie Prejean ‘Yelled at a Young Staffer’ after LKL Interview

This morning on CNN’s Reliable Sources, Howie Kurtz and his panel were talking about Carrie Prejean‘s near-exit from “Larry King Live” the other night. Turns out, since Prejean was in Washington, DC for the interview, Kurtz had some inside scoop about what happened after the interview.

Kurtz: “I just want to make one quick observation. Carrie Prejean yelled at a young staffer here in the CNN bureau: ‘Why did you let Larry ask me these questions?’ It didn’t have anything to do with the interview or the questions. I don’t think it was her best night.”

Tonight on HLN’s “Showbiz Tonight” Donald Trump calls Carrie Prejean‘s confrontation with Larry King “surprising.” Says the Donald:

“‘Inappropriate’ is more of a sexual term, as far as I’m concerned. I mean — inappropriate? He asked a very, very easy question and I was surprised that she just didn’t say, ‘Hey, listen, I can’t answer that question.’ Instead she wants to walk off the stage? It was very surprising.”

Carrie Prejean Nearly Walks off Larry King

Former beauty queen Carrie Prejean removed her microphone and nearly walked off the set last night while she was being interviewed by CNN’s Larry King. She repeatedly referred to King as being “inappropriate” when he asked about the motives behind her settlement with the Miss California USA pageant.

Miss California Carrie Prejean filled in as host of the first hour of Fox & Friends this morning, discussing the Prop 8 ruling yesterday and tussling co-host Brian Kilmeade‘s hair. What else? She interviewed Donald Trump (who predicted we’re “going to see her a lot on Fox”), interviewed a bible study leader about freedom of religion and reflected on “The Question.”

Cablers Cover Prop 8 Court Ruling

CNN, FNC and MSNBC have mixed in coverage of the Sonia Sotomayor selection with the multifarious ruling out of California this hour. The state’s Supreme Court upheld the ban on same-sex marriage, while also declaring approximately 18,000 couples married before the ban took effect will stay wed. On the cablers, many of the legal correspondents on to talk Supreme Court were back to discuss the ruling.

Of course, the question on everyone’s mind: what does Miss California Carrie Prejean think about all this? She’ll likely discuss the ruling when she co-hosts Fox & Friends tomorrow morning:

Is Carrie Prejean Trying to Back Out Of Her Fox News Hosting Stint?

Fox News insiders tell TVNewser Carrie Prejean is having second thoughts about co-hosting Fox & Friends next Wednesday. “Prejean’s people emailed Friday night calling off the deal,” the insider tells us.

Prejean, the reigning Miss California who’s been in the headlines for her stand on gay marriage, is scheduled to fill in for vacationing Gretchen Carlson on Wednesday, May 27.

We hear negotiations continued through the weekend to try and salvage the booking. A Fox News spokesperson tells TVNewser Prejean is “absolutely still hosting.”

truTV anchor Ashleigh Banfield was filling-in on Air America Tuesday around the time the cable news channels were airing the Donald Trump/Carrie Prejean news conference.

While commenting on the wall-to-wall coverage, Banfield blurted out, “I’d hit that! And I’m in an opposite marriage.”

The married mother of two says, “It was very liberating! I was channeling Howard Stern, my hero.”

“Oprah” Lauer? Today‘s “Go-To Guy”

Is NBC’s Matt Lauer “the male version of Oprah Winfrey“? The Buffalo News’ TV critic Alan Pergament makes the argument today based on three recent interviews: Elizabeth Edwards, Carrie Prejean and Bristol Palin.

The appearances of Edwards, Prejean and Palin with Lauer indicate that he is the go-to guy when women need gentle handling. Like Winfrey, he figures out how to ask newsmakers difficult or embarrassing questions without offending them in any way.

The three women are sympathetic figures to some degree, and that made it even harder to become too aggressive when asking questions….The empathetic Lauer was quite masterful making the subjects feel comfortable.

MSNBC’s Dayside Anchors Debate Carrie Prejean : “Can I Vomit Right Now?”

After the wall-to-wall coverage of the Donald Trump/Carrie Prejean news conference, MSNBC’s dayside anchor team of Contessa Brewer, Tamron Hall and David Shuster had a, let’s call it, lively discussion about what had just occurred. After Shuster called Prejean “clearly not very smart,” Brewer said, “I think this is a great jumping off point for a conversation about same sex marriage.”

“No it’s not, no it’s not,” added Hall. Later, Shuster said it in a different way: “The only jumping off point is jumping off a cliff if we really believe that people at these pageants have anything worthwhile to say to the rest of us.”

T&A In the Middle of the Day? Of Course We’ll Take It Live

The four cable news networks carried the news conference this morning fronted by this century’s P.T. Barnum, Donald Trump. Riding the wave of the successful finale of Celebrity Apprentice 2 Sunday night (8.7 million viewers, ranking NBC #2 for the night), the Donald called a news conference to announce whether Miss California Carrie Prejean would be able to keep her title.

In addition to taking over 30 minutes of cable TV time, promoting his pageant business over a competitor’s, (while taking a shot at the Miss America organization for its lack of a broadcast network home), there was the matter of his decision, announced live on TV. Trump deemed those racy pictures of Prejean “fine” and is allowing her to keep her title.

Prejean then took to the mic to thank Mr. Trump and to reaffirm her stand on gay marriage which she believes cost her the Miss USA title last month. “I believe that a marriage should be between one man and one woman.” She also got emotional, targeting her critics: “I exercised my freedom of speech, and I was punished for doing so.”

This same stunt was pulled three years ago, when a news conference was called to determine if alcohol and drug problems would cost then-Miss USA Tara Conner her crown. They didn’t. Today Trump called the Prejean affair, “in a way, a bigger issue,” because her position on gay marriage is part of the national discussion.

As for the wall-to-wall coverage. CNN was first to get out. Fox News, MSNBC and HLN stayed with the whole thing. Of course MSNBC would, since the Miss Universe organization is a partnership between Trump and NBC Universal. But that didn’t stop one of MSNBC’s anchors for the hour, David Shuster from describing his disgust with the whole thing: “Can I vomit right now?” he asked as the news conference came to a close, adding, Prejean “whined about all the attention when I thought ‘gee, isn’t that what beauty pageants are about.’ And never mind Carrie Prejean, Donald Trump seemed to be saying lying is okay.” At this hour, MSNBC continues to milk the news conference conducting “exclusive” interviews with the Miss California USA co-executive directors.

By the way, Prejean will be a guest on FNC’s “Hannity” tonight.

Mika B. on E! News Anchor: “She’s Ignorant”

This morning Mika Brzezinski weighed in on the Miss California-Perez Hilton gay marriage flap.

During The Joe Scarborough Show on radio, Brzezinski defended Miss California Carrie Prejean calling her “brave” while laying in to E! News anchor Giuliana Rancic for Tweeting that Prejean, “is an ignorant disgrace and she makes me sick to my stomach.”

“I don’t appreciate this anchor,” Brzezinski says of Rancic. “She’s shown her ignorance. She’s ignorant.”
