Willie Geist and Carson Daly Undergo Live Testicular Cancer Exams

“Today” show hosts  Willie Geist and Carson Daly underwent testicular cancer exams on live TV this morning. The procedure was part of “No-Shave Today,” an initiative to heighten awareness of men’s health. Last year, it was Matt Lauer and Al Roker undergoing prostate exams.

“It’s a nerve-wracking thing because at any moment you’re afraid the doctor is going to say they’re discovering something,” Daly said.

NBC News Boss on US Weekly ‘Today’ Show Story: ‘The Rumors are Wrong — Period’

USToday

This is NOT the “Today” show’s week.

US Weekly went waaaaay out on a limb this morning with a piece claiming that two “Today” show hosts were fired.

Co-hosts Willie Geist and Natalie Morales “were recently told they were fired,” an NBC source reveals exclusively in the new issue of Us Weekly. Morales, 42, is now in talks with ABC and Geist, 39, has lined up a gig at CBS, the insider tells Us.

None of that is true, say NBC and CBS and ABC.

When we asked whether Geist has “lined up a gig” at CBS News, spokesperson Sonya McNair told TVNewser, “No.” When we asked ABC if Morales is in talks with that network, we were told the network doesn’t comment on rumors and speculation. (Morales is under contract with NBC News for two more years, until November, 2016.)

As for NBC, network news president Deborah Turness is crystal clear: “the rumors are wrong — period:”

NBC’s TODAY has the best anchor team in morning television. The entire TODAY show anchor team — Matt Lauer, Savannah Guthrie, Al Roker, Natalie Morales, Willie Geist, Carson Daly, Tamron Hall, Kathie Lee Gifford and Hoda Kotb — are incredibly talented, valued and have our support. In response to the false rumors that have been circulated about our anchor team, NBC wants to be absolutely clear: The rumors are wrong — period. This is the team we are committed to. And this is the team that our viewers turn to in the morning.

The US Weekly story is a byproduct of the firing of “Today” show SVP Jamie Horowitz earlier this week. Read more

The Evening Ticker: Lauer, Suratt, Kelly

  • The “Today” show kicked off its second annual No-Shave “Today.” Matt Lauer, Al RokerWillie Geist and Carson Daly will once again grow beards this month to raise awareness for men’s health issues. Last year, the show raised more than $100,000.

  • Samuel T. Suratt, the Archivist for CBS News for more than 20 years from 1969 to 1991, lost his battle with pancreatic cancer in New York City. He was 81.

  • In case you missed it, Megyn Kelly got the “Saturday Night Live” treatment over the weekend. Cecily Strong played the FNC anchor for SNL’s cold open, which focused on New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie‘s defense of Ebola quarantines. WATCH:

Brian Williams Gets Social; Holds First Facebook Q&A

WilliamsFacebookFollowing “Nightly News” Thursday, Brian Williams conducted his first Facebook Q&A. Many of the questions came from his NBC News colleagues, including Carson Daly who asked him about his drinking habits while he travels.

“Carson Daly, ladies and gentlemen! The man, the myth, the LEGEND. I love me some Today Show Carson, but I REALLY love the nighttime show…”

Matt Lauer asked Williams about his choice of movies: Blazing Saddles or GhostbustersSavannah Guthrie gave him a hard time about some missing lip gloss and Natalie Morales asked him about what other job he might have pursued and he replied “any opportunity to work with Willie Geist.”

Geist chimed in and asked him who his favorite member of NWA is.

Speaking of rap, Williams was asked what he thinks of the Jimmy Fallon mashups.

“They’ve been amazing. Never before have so many words been re-purposed so outside their original meaning. We have interviewed the profoundly talented video editor and will put it on the web before long.”

The Afternoon Ticker: Nobles, Murdoch, ‘Orange Room’

  • CNN Newsource has named Ryan Nobles a national correspondent based in Washington, DC . Nobles comes from WWBT in Richmond, Virginia, where he reported from since 2007.

  • Actor James Cromwell will play News Corp. CEO Rupert Murdoch in the Sydney premiere of the bio-play “Rupert” this November, Sydney Morning Herald reports. The play is set to come to Broadway in 2016.

  • “Today” is celebrating the one-year anniversary of its digital “Orange Room” online tomorrow. Carson Daly will host “The Orange Room Show” starting at 7:20amET on Today.com. The livestreamed special will feature a performance by American Idol winner Phillip Phillips with parts simulcasted on “Today.”

Carson Daly Welcomes Baby London Rose

Good news for Vale Guthrie Feldman: she has a new “Today” show friend. Carson Daly and Siri Pinter welcomed their third child, London Rose Daly, Wednesday night. The baby girl was 8 lbs. 11 oz. and 22 inches long. “It’s time for our weekly segment, a ‘Today’ show baby,” Willie Geist joked as he introduced a Skype interview with Daly this morning. Watch:

Matt Lauer Dares Brian Williams to Take Ice Bucket Challenge

It’s 81 degrees in New York City today, but on this morning’s “Today” show, Matt Lauer was likely quite a bit colder. Responding to a challenge issued by Hall of Fame golfer Greg Norman, Lauer participated in the “ice bucket challenge,” which has fairly simple rules: record yourself getting a bucket of ice dumped on your head and call out the next three challengers. If you don’t, you have to donate $100 to charity.

Lauer went with the first option, with a little help from Savannah Guthrie and Carson Daly. After it was over, he passed the challenge on to Martha Stewart, Howard Stern and “NBC Nightly News” anchor Brian Williams. We’re guessing we won’t see Williams take an ice bath on “Nightly,” but stay tuned…

At least one of Lauer’s challenges will likely go unmet: Stern, interviewing Lauer and Guthrie on his SiriusXM radio show today, said “If someone poured ice on me, I would behead them.”

Matt Lauer, Jorge Ramos, Willie Geist Write Open Letters to Their Daughters

matt lauer and daughterIn celebration of Father’s Day, TIME and Lean In have published a series of open letters from famous dads to their daughters. This year’s collection includes notes from Unvision’s Jorge Ramos and NBC’s Matt Lauer, Carson Daly and Willie Geist.

Matt Lauer:

Thank you for the gift of your compassion — for always being the first to want to help others, whether they’re friends or total strangers. Thank you for your humor and even your moods — because one gets us all through the other. On this father’s day, I want you to know that I feel I’m right where I belong — tightly wrapped around your little finger.

Jorge Ramos:

There’s a beautiful picture of us, with you sleeping on my chest. You were only a few weeks old and I was clearly mesmerized by you. That moment, captured in an old photograph, is my idea of happiness. It’s true love.

Carson Daly and Fiancee Expecting Third Child

It’s a “Today” baby boom: Carson Daly and his fiancee, Siri Pinter, are expecting their third child this summer. Daly, who has a 5-year-old son and a 1-year-old daughter with Pinter, announced the news yesterday on “The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon.”

The due date for Baby Daly is just one week away from the due date of Savannah Guthrie‘s first child. “I can’t wait until we all go to Lamaze class together,” Guthrie quipped on “Today” this morning. Watch:
