Carson Daly Welcomes Baby London Rose

Good news for Vale Guthrie Feldman: she has a new “Today” show friend. Carson Daly and Siri Pinter welcomed their third child, London Rose Daly, Wednesday night. Matt Lauer Dares Brian Williams to Take Ice Bucket Challenge

It’s 81 degrees in New York City today, but on this morning’s “Today” show, Matt Lauer was likely quite a bit colder. Responding to a challenge issued by Hall of Fame golfer Greg Norman, Lauer participated in the “ice bucket challenge,” which has fairly simple rules: record yourself getting a bucket of ice dumped on your head and call out the next three challengers. If you don’t, you have to donate $100 to charity.

Lauer went with the first option, with a little help from Savannah Guthrie and Carson Daly. After it was over, he passed the challenge on to Martha Stewart, Howard Stern and “NBC Nightly News” anchor Brian Williams. We’re guessing we won’t see Williams take an ice bath on “Nightly,” but stay tuned…

At least one of Lauer’s challenges will likely go unmet: Stern, interviewing Lauer and Guthrie on his SiriusXM radio show today, said “If someone poured ice on me, I would behead them.”

Matt Lauer, Jorge Ramos, Willie Geist Write Open Letters to Their Daughters

matt lauer and daughterIn celebration of Father’s Day, TIME and Lean In have published a series of open letters from famous dads to their daughters. This year’s collection includes notes from Unvision’s Jorge Ramos and NBC’s Matt Lauer, Carson Daly and Willie Geist.

Matt Lauer:

Thank you for the gift of your compassion — for always being the first to want to help others, whether they’re friends or total strangers. Thank you for your humor and even your moods — because one gets us all through the other. On this father’s day, I want you to know that I feel I’m right where I belong — tightly wrapped around your little finger.

Jorge Ramos:

There’s a beautiful picture of us, with you sleeping on my chest. You were only a few weeks old and I was clearly mesmerized by you. That moment, captured in an old photograph, is my idea of happiness. It’s true love.

Carson Daly and Fiancee Expecting Third Child

It’s a “Today” baby boom: Carson Daly and his fiancee, Siri Pinter, are expecting their third child this summer. Daly, who has a 5-year-old son and a 1-year-old daughter with Pinter, announced the news yesterday on “The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon.”

The due date for Baby Daly is just one week away from the due date of Savannah Guthrie‘s first child. “I can’t wait until we all go to Lamaze class together,” Guthrie quipped on “Today” this morning. Watch:

That Time Carson Daly Started a Meme Called #Rokering

With every awkward morning show moment, a viral meme can’t be far behind. It all started when Jeff Rossen took Al Roker‘s seat at the “Today” anchor desk on Friday, forcing Roker to lurk awkwardly in the background. Carson Daly spotted Roker next to a lamp with a half-bored, half-grouchy look on his face and saw the viral potential: he posted an Instagram picture replicating the pose, and #Rokering was born

Lost Remote has more #Rokering pictures.

Jimmy Fallon Looks Beyond ‘Tonight Show’ to ‘Nightly News,’ ‘Today,’ and Being the ‘New Carson Daly’

SNLMadonna and the Mayor were just two of the drop-ins on tonight’s “Saturday Night Live” hosted by SNL alum Jimmy Fallon. Paul McCartney, Barry Gibb and Chris Rock stopped by too. During “Weekend Update” there was a passing of the baton. When Fallon, a former “Weekend Update” anchor takes the reins at the “Tonight Show” next year, current “Update” anchor Seth Myers takes over his job at “Late Night.”

“I hosted ‘Late Night’ for five years and now the ‘Tonight Show,’ Fallon said during “Update.” “Five years after that I’ll host the ‘Nightly News,’ then, five years after that the ‘Today’ show. And five years after that I’m the new Carson Daly.”

New York Mayor Michael Bloomberg, who is leaving his job on New Year’s Eve talked about his future plans: “I’ll be fulfilling a lifelong dream of consuming a small soda on a smoke-free beach.” Bloomberg also joked that he’s applied to teach Spanish.

Earlier on “Update,” Myers joked about an upcoming New Year’s Eve special: “NBC announced this week that Kathie Lee Gifford and Hoda Kotb will host a primetime special on the network called ‘A Toast to 2013,’ in which they recount their favorite stories from the past year. But, shh, it’s actually an intervention.”

If Matt Lauer Leaves ‘Today,’ Who Will Succeed Him?

matt-lauer“Today” is actively building its bench of male hosts in the event Matt Lauer leaves the show at the conclusion of his contract in 2015, according to The Hollywood Reporter’s Marisa Guthrie.

Guthrie’s piece reports on the current NBC personalities—and potential outsiders—who might replace the long tenured anchor if he exits.

Which member of the NBC family could possibly fill Lauer’s shoes? Both Willie Geist, who is the co-host of “Today’s” 9amET hour, and “Meet The Press” moderator David Gregorycould be in the running. Both of their Q scores, which measures audience likability toward on-air personalities, are higher than Lauer’s, with Gregory’s standing out highest among the key adult women demo at 18 compared to Geist’s 14.

Other contenders mentioned in the piece—albeit long shots—are Ryan Seacrest and “Today” digital host Carson Daly, with the latter having  ”the weakest emotional connection” to female viewers, according to a Q  score executive.

Outside the streets of Rockefeller Plaza, Anderson Cooper is also mentioned as a possibility, but unlikely since he is negotiating a new deal with CNN while also continuing to contribute to “60 Minutes.”
