Senior Medical Producer Danielle Dellorto Leaving CNN

10264804_10152322901156435_7754242010547669648_nDanielle Dellorto, who has traveled with world with Dr. Sanjay Gupta as CNN’s senior medical producer, is the latest longtime CNN producer to leave the network. She announced her decision on Facebook:

With all the recent changes at #CNN, I’m making the decision to take a leap and expand my wings outside the company. For 11 years CNN has been my home, my family. I’ve been to places in the world I never dreamed I’d go and got to tell stories that created change. I’ve reported from 14 countries… survived conflict zones, countless disaster zones. Heck, I even survived a kidnapping attempt in Pakistan and managed not to get Ebola while on the front line in West Africa. It has been one helluva ride.

Dellorto’s last day at CNN is November 7. As part of the network’s recent round of layoffs, “Sanjay Gupta, M.D.” was canceled, and CNN’s medical team reduced, with some existing employees told they would have to re-apply for new jobs.

TV News Journalists Returning to Haiti Following Cholera Outbreak

Over the weekend, word spread that an outbreak of cholera has sprung up on Haiti, the island nation that was devastated by an earthquake nine months ago.

While the pictures may not be as dramatic as the ones viewers saw during the earthquake, the disease has the potential to kill or seriously affect thousands of people.

The TV news organizations have dispatched a number of correspondents and producers to the area to cover the outbreak.

CNN will have chief medical correspondent Dr. Sanjay Gupta in Haiti  joined by his senior producer Danielle Dellorto.

CBS News has its medical correspondent, Dr. Jon LaPook on the island, where he will give his first report on the “CBS Evening News” tonight.

ABC News medical editor Dr. Richard Besser is in the country covering the outbreak, and filed a report for”Good morning America” this morning. Video of that report, after the jump.

NBC News’ chief medical editor Dr. Nancy Snyderman was in St. Marc, which Snyderman calls “the epicenter of the cholera epidemic.”

TV News Producers, Execs and Personalities Compete in NYC Triathlon

Cuomo071910.jpg Yesterday was the 2010 Nautica New York City Triathlon, and a flurry of TV news staffers, executives and personalities participated. As we reported over the weekend, Fox Business Network’s Liz Claman was among those biking, swimming and running to the finish line.

Other boldface names included CNN’s Dr. Sanjay Gupta and ABC News’ Chris Cuomo, who is pictured here with the medal given to those that complete the race. Cuomo posted the photo to his Facebook page.

CNN had a number of other staffers participate in the race, according to a blog post recapping the day’s festivities: executive producer Roni Selig joined Gupta and producers Anthony Fox, John Bonifield, Caitlin Hagan, Danielle Dellorto, Charlie Moore and Jeff Kepnes (who just happens to be Liz Claman’s husband) in the race.

In addition to Cuomo, senior producer Sharon Hoffman crossed the finish line for team ABC News.

WNYW, the local Fox affiliate, was a media sponsor of the triathlon, and had a number of staffers and executives participating, including former Fox News exec Jack Abernathy, who currently oversees the Fox Television Stations group.

As for Claman, she sent this tweet out shortly after finishing the race: “Gang,I’m back & I did it-Tough weather conditions HOT but I didn’t try 2 push it. Got kicked a few times in the river but the bike/run good!”

The Hudson river does get pretty crowded this time of year.
