’20/20′ Repeats Ratings High For Second Time In Two Weeks

ABC 2020_2012_624x351On Friday night, ABC’s “20/20″ kept up its ratings momentum, drawing its biggest audience in 18 months, since February, 2012, for the second straight week.

The show, airing at 10pmET/9pmCT, was the #1 newsmagazine of the night by default, as NBC’s “Dateline” didn’t air —- substituted instead by a Halloween-themed Dracula special hosted by MSNBC’s Tamron Hall which drew just 2.2 million total viewers.

7.7 million watched “20/20″ at 10p. The show finished first place in the A25-54 demo, but second to CBS’ “Blue Bloods” in total viewers.

Barbara Walters anchored a “20/20″ investigation, along with Brian Ross, that explored a Chicago baby stolen from a hospital nearly 50 years ago.

The Ticker: ’20/20,’ MacCallum, Regis

  • Among younger viewers, “20/20″ was the most-watched newsmagazine during the month of June. The ABC show topped CBS’ “60 Minutes” and NBC’s “Dateline” in adults 25-54 and adults 18-49.

  • As Regis Philbin gears up for the launch of his Fox Sports 1 show next month, he tells the New York Post he’s ready to get back to daily television. “There were times when I would get a little antsy, when I wondered what I could or should be doing,” he said.

‘Dateline’ Wins Friday Night

“Dateline” had a successful return to two-hour episodes Friday night.

The two-hour murder mystery called “Twisted” won the night in Total Viewers averaging 6.02 million. The show grew with each half hour: 5.02 million at 9pm to 6.84 million by the 10:30 half hour.

“Dateline” topped its newsmagazine competion on ABC: A repeat of “What Would You Do?” at 9pm and “20/20″ (which included this story about a former Philadelphia meteorologist) at 10pm. It was a tie at 10pm in the A18-49 demo with “Dateline” and “20/20″ averaging a 1.5 rating.

This was the highest-rated Friday for NBC since April 20. “Datline” will be two hours on Friday nights until the Olympics begin July 27.
