Dave Briggs, who joined NBC Sports from Fox News in January specifically to host the program, is being removed as co-host. Starting Monday, the show will have a new set, and Michelle Beadle will host alone, joined by a rotating cast of regulars. Briggs is expected to get hosting duties on another NBCSN program.

“The Crossover” was one of NBCSN’s highest-profile launches in recent memory, as Beadle was poached from ESPN (which wanted badly to keep her) and Briggs came from “Fox & Friends” weekend edition, which, while not as popular as the weekday edition, still does very well for FNC.

“We’ve been impressed with Tucker’s lively and thought-provoking appearances on our air and are pleased that he is joining the FOX & Friends Weekend team where his vibrant personality will be a great addition to the show,” says FNC executive  VP of programming Bill Shine in a statement.

In his new role Carlson will serve alongside current co-hosts Alisyn Camerota and Clayton Morris, and will also remain a Fox News contributor, appearing on various programs for the channel. He has been a regular fill-in host on the program since the departure of Dave Briggs.

Carlson is a cable news veteran, having served as a host on both CNN and MSNBC.

NBC Sports Network says the 30-minute program airing at 6pmET “will focus on the biggest and most topical stories of the day in the worlds of sports, pop culture and entertainment.” It debuts Monday, January 28.

TVNewser has learned Briggs’ contract came to an end by mutual consent. Prior to joining Fox, Briggs was a sports anchor and host for Comcast SportsNet New England and before that anchored at WHDH in Boston and KOKI in Tulsa. Briggs’ first job in TV was at KEVN in Rapid City.

Greta Van Susteren threw out the first pitch last night at the Mets game at Citi Field. It was also Fox Fan Night at the new ballpark. Several other Fox Newsers were in attendance including the Fox & Friends lineups of Gretchen Carlson, Brian Kilmeade and Steve Doocy, along with his son, new Fox News hire Peter Doocy. And the weekend F&F team of Alisyn Camerota, Clayton Morris and Dave Briggs. The Mets lost 3-1 to the Tampa Bay Rays during a rainy night at Citi Field. They lost a day game today, too.

After appearances on “Red Eye,” Tucker Carlson made it official this morning becoming a paid contributor to Fox News Channel. His first appearance, coming on his 40th birthday, was on Fox & Friends just after 7amET.

“Life begins at 40 and your Fox career begins at 40 too,” said co-anchor Dave Briggs.

“I’ve waited a long time to get here and I’m glad to be here,” said Carlson. “We’re delighted to have you,” added Alisyn Camerota.

Carlson, a libertarian, spent five years at CNN where he co-hosted “from the right” the long-running “Crossfire” until its cancellation. He joined MSNBC in 2005 spending three years there anchoring a one-hour show until last March. He stayed on through the election as a political contributor. About MSNBC, Carlson tells TVDecoder’s Brian Stelter, “It’s just a different network than it was when I joined, very different.”

Briggs was first to report the Carlson news on Fox & Friends Friday as the anchors promoted today’s show: “Karl Rove is here, Mike Huckabee is here, and Tucker Carlson who is coming to play for our team here at Fox News, congratulations to Tucker.”

Beginning today, Fox & Friends First, which aired from 6-7amET and featured Camerota as one of the anchors, is being replaced by a third hour of Fox & Friends.

Camerota will be moved to the weekend, beginning July 26, where she will co-anchor with Dave Briggs and Clayton Morris. For now the newsreader role during the week, previously held by Camerota, will be handled by co-anchor Gretchen Carlson.

Camerota began her nine day vacation on Friday, as she noted on her blog. She also responded to a commenter named Marshall who asked, “Does going on a long vacation make you nervous, or do you have an iron clad contract? Don’t pull a Laurie Dhue on us, or a Page Hopkins, or a…”

“Do you know something I should be aware of Marshall?” she responded.

Where this leaves F&F Weekend fill-ins Ainsley Earhardt (who was on the couch this past weekend), or Megan Henderson, of Fox’s Dallas station, remains to be seen.
