Here’s The First Trailer For Sanjay Gupta’s TNT Drama ‘Monday Mornings’

TNT will debut the drama “Monday Mornings” on—appropriately–Monday, February 4, 2013. The series, which is from David E. Kelley and CNN’s Dr. Sanjay Gupta, is based on Gupta’s book of the same name. Actors Ving Rhames and Alfred Molina have signed on as stars.

Below, a trailer for the series explaining what exactly the title means, and a sneak peak at some scenes:

Production Begins On Gupta’s ‘Monday Mornings’

Production has begun on the TNT drama “Monday Mornings,” which is based on the novel of the same name by CNN chief medical correspondent Dr. Sanjay Gupta. David E. Kelley is producing the series, along with Gupta.

In a production still TNT sent over (right), Gupta can be seen instructing actor Ving Rhames on some of the nuances of being a surgeon.

“Monday Mornings” is on track to debut in early 2013.

TNT Gives Series Order To Drama Based on Dr. Sanjay Gupta’s Novel

Back in December, we noted that TNT had ordered a TV drama pilot based on CNN correspondent Dr. Sanjay Gupta‘s novel, Monday Mornings. Today the network officially picked up the show to series, and will debut it in Summer, 2013.

Originally titled “Chelsea General,” the series will now also be called “Monday Mornings,” and will be executive produced by Gupta, along with television drama legend David E. Kelley (“Ally McBeal,” “Chicago Hope”).

The cast of the series includes Ving Rhames, Alfred Molina and Jamie Bamber as doctors at Chelsea General Hospital in Portland, Oregon. Like Gupta’s book, the series will be set around the Monday morning morbidity meetings, where the doctors reflect on what went wrong the previous week.

Dr. Sanjay Gupta Teaming With David E. Kelley For TNT Drama Series

CNN’s Dr. Sanjay Gupta is getting into the world of TV drama, and with the legendary writer/producer David E. Kelley, no less. CNN sister network TNT has greenlit a pilot for “Chelsea General,” (working title) a medical drama series based on Gupta’s upcoming book.

Gupta’s book, Monday Mornings, follows five surgeons at a hospital, using the weekly morbidity and mortality conference as a backdrop for their stories. The novel will be released in early 2012.

The addition of Kelley is a coup for the series. While Kelley is best known for his legal shows like “Ally McBeal,” “Boston Legal” and “The Practice,” he also created the long-running medical program “Chicago Hope,” as well as “Doogie Howser, M.D.”
