The biggest story in the world right now is the ongoing war in southern Israel, with Israel bombing sites in Gaza, and Hamas firing rockets into Israel. By last night every network had the time to send people to the region, and that was reflected in TV coverage.

CNN: CNN had by far the most coverage of the conflict, dedicating just about every segment in every hour from 7-11PM to the conflict. Much of the reporting was done from the region, including Anderson Cooper in Gaza. The only exception was 9 PM’s “Piers Morgan Tonight,” which secured an important “get,” an interview with Israel’s President, Shimon Peres.

The first sign of the verdict in the Jerry Sandusky trial emerged at 10:10pm tonight as reporters bounded down the steps of the courthouse in Bellefonte, PA. The indication of what those verdicts were — guilty on 45 of 48 counts — came as trial-watchers emerged, arms raised, cheering the result.

In the ensuing minutes, reporters and producers from CNN, Fox News and NBC found their camera positions and explained how the verdicts were read and what the reaction was from Sandusky, his family and his victims.

“It’s most likely the end of Jerry Sandusky,” said Shepard Smith who lead coverage on Fox News. “It’s as sad as anything I’ve covered,” Smith said. FNC’s David Lee Miller reported from outside the courthouse while producer Shira Bush was inside for the verdict.

Anderson Cooper anchored on CNN as Jason Carroll and Susan Candiotti reported from the courthouse and legal analyst Jeffrey Toobin phoned in.

“He’s going to die in prison, where he should die,” said Toobin. “This is an evil, evil man.”

“Many of us thought the jury would mistry. But they didn’t led down lady justice,” said Nancy Grace anchoring on HLN while on MSNBC her former Court TV colleague Catherine Crier was a guest on MSNBC’s coverage anchored by Ed Schultz.

In her remarks after the verdict, prosecutor Linda Kelly singled out the media for their “exceptional attentiveness and thoroughness, with much thoughtful commentary and insightful analysis.”

NBC News chief foreign correspondent Richard Engel reported on “Nightly News” last night and again this morning on “Today” from the port city of Tobruk, about 75 miles west of the Egyptian border — one of the Eastern areas that has abandoned the rule of Moammar Gadhafi.

ABC News has correspondents on either side of the Libyan border, Alexander Marquardt in Egypt and Jeffrey Kofman in Tunisia. Says ABC spokesman Jeffrey Schneider, “Like everyone, we’re assessing the security situation on a minute-by-minute basis, looking to see if there are places within Libya from which we can report, keeping in mind that the safety of our correspondents and crews is our highest priority.”

It is for security reasons that CBS News is not revealing the names of two correspondents now in-country. CBS News foreign editor Ingrid Ciprian-Matthews tells TVNewser the two correspondents entered from Egypt. Expect to see reports from them tonight on “Evening News.” A third CBS News correspondent is traveling from Bahrain to Tunisia at this hour.

CNN’s Ben Wededman has been in Libya since Monday, also arriving from the Egyptian side.

FNC’s David Lee Miller entered Libya today, and did his first liveshot from the country this morning.

Fredricka Whitfield anchored much of the afternoon on CNN with Don Lemon picking up at 5pmET.

Fox News correspondent David Lee Miller is along the border. Viewers could see IDF troops on the move behind him during his live shots. FNC tells TVNewser they will preempt regular programming until 7pmET at which point Fox Report will air. The network has added two live hours of Geraldo at 8pmET and 10pmET which will cover the crisis.

MSNBC interrupted its afternoon documentaries just after 1:30pmET and has been in live coverage since. Peter Alexander, who anchored the morning show as well, was joined by Chris Jansing at 2pmET from Los Angeles. Contessa Brewer took over for Alexander at 5pmET. With the NFL on NBC there is no Nightly News so network correspondents including Tom Aspell, Martin Fletcher and Andrea Mitchell continue to report for the cable channel.

As for the broadcast networks, it appears CBS News did not have a correspondent in Israel or inside Gaza. SKY News correspondent Dominic Waghorn reported for the CBS Evening News from along the border. For ABC’s “World News,” Miguel Marquez reported from Jerusalem and Simon McGregor-Wood was in Sderot, Israel, near Gaza.
