Elisabeth Hasselbeck Joining Fox News, will Co-Host ‘Fox & Friends’

More changes are coming to Fox News Channel. Elisabeth Hasselbeck is leaving “The View” and joining FNC to co-host “Fox & Friends” beginning in September. Gretchen Carlson will move to a later, one-hour show, made possible by last week’s news that Megyn Kelly would be moving to primetime.

“I have been a long-time fan of ‘Fox & Friends’ and am excited to be joining their team as it is an honor to call the Fox News Channel my new television home,” said Hasselbeck in a statement.

“Elisabeth’s warm and engaging personality made her a star on ‘The View,’” added Fox News Chairman & CEO Roger Ailes ”She has proven to be an excellent conversationalist and I am certain she will make a great addition to our already successful morning franchise.”

“Fox & Friends,” also hosted by Steve Doocy and Brian Kilmeadehas been the No. 1 cable news morning show for nearly 12 years, since Nov. 2001.

TVNewser was first to report in March that Hasselbeck’s future at “The View” was up in the air.

“When Elisabeth survived ‘Survivor,’ we wanted to make sure she would stay afloat,” said Barbara Walters, referring to Hasselbeck’s first foray into TV, in the second season of the CBS reality show. “We have had 10 wonderful years with her and she will now be swimming in new waters. We will miss her and wish her everything good.”

It’s not known which daytime hour Carlson will take over. Kelly’s departure leaves the 1-3pmET hours vacant. Carlson had hosted “Fox & Friends” since 2006. She replaced E.D. Hill who, upon leaving the morning show, moved to an afternoon hosting slot. Hill left Fox in 2008.

Fancy Footwork but No Knockout Blows as Jon Stewart and Bill O’Reilly Spar

Was it a mock debate? A mockable debate? A debatable mock?

Whatever it was, Jon Stewart’s and Bill O’Reilly’s ‘Rumble in the Air-Conditioned Auditorium’ Saturday night was a lot more fun to watch than was last week’s presidential debate.

In fact, President Obama and Mitt Romney would do well to consider bringing in Stewart and O’Reilly to prep the candidates for their next showdown, Oct. 16 at Hofstra. They could do a lot worse, and probably have.

Held at George Washington University’s sold-out Lisner Auditorium and streamed live online for $4.95, ‘Rumble’ featured equal parts polemics and poppycock about the country’s most pressing political issues. Lincoln-Douglas, it was not.

Both hosts were outside their natural habitats. O’Reilly is no standup comedian, and Stewart can bray when he overplays the righteous indignation card. Also, the two were used to going mano a mano in short segments on each other’s shows, but this event was 90 minutes. Untelevised minutes, to boot.

Still, as befits their unlikely bromance, the Lilliputian Stewart – he’s 5-foot-7 – and 6-foot-4 O’Reilly were obviously enjoying themselves at the sparring session. It wasn’t as funny as ‘The Daily Show’ or as fiery as ‘The Factor.’ It wasn’t even a rumble. But it had its moments.

Raising and lowering himself on an electric riser behind the podium, Stewart began his opening remarks with: “My friend Bill O’Reilly is completely full of shit.” He riffed about Fox

E.D. Hill Fills In For Brooke Baldwin on CNN

Former Fox News Channel anchor and — as of earlier this afternoon — soon-to-be-former “In the Arena” contributor E.D. Hill is filling in for 3 p.m. anchor Brooke Baldwin on CNN today.

Hill, who left Fox News Channel in November 2008, has been seen regularly on CNN since February, when Eliot Spitzer‘s 8 p.m. timeslot was rebranded as an ensemble show following Kathleen Parker‘s departure. She has also guest-hosted “The View” several times.

Eliot Spitzer moves into Kathleen Parker’s office

TVNewser has learned Eliot Spitzer host of the new 8pmET show “In the Arena” has moved into the office of his former CNN co-host, Kathleen Parker. Parker announced on Friday she’d be moving on from the show and the network. So today, Spitzer moved in.

A CNN insider tells TVNewser, “It’s not unusual that when there are staff changes that there are office changes as well.”

Kathleen Parker Out at ‘Parker Spitzer’

Breaking: “Parker Spitzer” co-host Kathleen Parker is leaving CNN’s 8 PM program.

Parker’s co-host, former New York Governor Eliot Spitzer, will remain. Earlier we noted that Spitzer had been telling friends Parker would be leaving the network in short order.

The show is being reformatted as an ensemble program called “In the Arena,” and will feature a rotating lineup of contributors that will be paired with Spitzer, according to a tweet from the NY Times Brian Stelter.

Update: Its official: “Kathleen Parker has decided to leave the program to focus on her writing, and we have decided to take the show in a new direction,” said CNN/U.S. executive VP Ken Jautz in a memo to staff. “We will be adopting an ensemble format with several newsmakers, guests and contributors joining Eliot Spitzer each night. The new program will be called, “In the Arena,” beginning Monday. E.D. Hill and Will Cain will join the program as well others within and outside the CNN family.”

Cain is a columnist for National Review, while Hill is a former Fox News anchor, who is infamous for her “terrorist fist jab” comment on the network back in 2008.

“In the Arena” appears to be a reference to the famous quote by former President Theodore Roosevelt.

That quote, along with statements from Parker, Spitzer and Jautz are after the jump.

CNN Eyeing Shakeup at ‘Parker Spitzer?’

The Wall Street Journal’s Sam Schechner reports (Subscription required) that CNN is considering replacing Kathleen Parker on its 8 PM program “Parker Spitzer.”

Parker, of course, co-hosts the show with former New York Governor Eliot Spitzer.

“Parker Spitzer” has failed to catch on with viewers since it debuted in October, delivering ratings that were down compared to what the 8 PM hour typically delivered the year before. Turner Broadcasting chief Phil Kent, who oversees CNN, acknowledged that the show had been disappointing at an investor conference last week, saying:

Unisex ‘View’ Spinoff in Development?

NY Daily News reports that Barbara Walters and EP Bill Geddie are collaborating again to develop a new spin-off of “The View” that “will attempt to inject a male perspective into the topics of the day.” Two of the names already being batted around for the show? Former NBCer Bryant Gumbel and former Fox Newser E.D. Hill, who has guest hosted “The View” in the past.

E.D. Hill to Discuss Decision to Have Double Mastectomy

Hill_1.27.jpgFormer Fox News anchor E.D. Hill will be a guest on “The View” tomorrow to discuss her decision to undergo a preventative double mastectomy.

ABC cameras followed Hill to her home where the former “Fox & Friends” co-anchor discusses her decision with her mother and sister. Hill’s mother and grandmother are breast cancer survivors; her sister has already had a double mastectomy.

Hill will make additional appearances on “The View” in the coming weeks documenting the surgeries and recovery.

With Elizabeth Hasselbeck on maternity leave, a couple of ladynewsers will be sitting in this week. Mika Brzezinski is in tomorrow and former Fox News anchor E.D. Hill is in Wednesday and Thursday. Wonder if the GMA execs will be watching as they search for a new co-anchor.

This morning, Alexandra Wentworth, AKA Mrs. George Stephanopoulos is guest hosting.
