2013 TVNewser March Madness Bracket Challenge: Championship Update

This is it. Only two teams remain in the 2013 NCAA March Madness men’s basketball tourney, Louisville and Michigan. Amazingly, the TVNewser bracket challenge is too close to call.

“CBS This Morning” EP Chris Licht still has the lead, with 100 points. But CNN’s Tom Foreman is right behind him with 97 points. Fellow CNNers Janelle Rodriguez, Eric Sherling and Randi Kaye round out the top five.

FNC’s Anna Kooiman, CNN’s Lisa Sylvester and the computer-generated picks of TVNewser’s Alex Weprin are at the bottom of the pack.

We will know who the champ is after the big game tonight. The full standings are after the jump.

FNC’s Anna Kooiman and CNN’s Lisa Sylvester are at the bottom of the pack right now.

This early in the game everyone is really close, but a few people have separated themselves from the pack.

CNBC’s Brian Schactman leads the way, with his colleague Joe Kernen and CNN’s Brooke Baldwin right behind him. Right now Lisa Sylvester, Wolf Blitzer, Gayle King and Norah O’Donnell are at the bottom of the pack, but there is plenty of time for a comeback.

Iowans Edith and Carolyn go to Washington

Look who just made an impromptu visit to the CNN DC bureau.

Meet Edith and Carolyn of Clinton County, Iowa fame. Edith Pfeffer and Carolyn Tallet famously joined Wolf Blitzer and John King on the phone in the early morning hours — just after 2amET — of Wednesday, Jan. 4, to sort out some unaccounted-for votes from the Iowa Caucuses.

Edith and Carolyn got in touch with the DC bureau last night to say they were in Washington to meet with a congressmen on a highway bill. And so they stopped in this morning to see the bureau and meet some staffers. They also posed for a photo with Blitzer and execs Sam Feist (far left) and Eric Sherling (far right).

Eric Sherling Rejoins CNN as Director of DC Programming

More job moves coming from the CNN Washington DC bureau.

Eric Sherling, the former EP of “The Situation Room with Wolf Blitzer” before leaving for ABC’s “Good Morning America,” is returning to CNN as director of Washington programming.

Sherling will oversee Washington political programming including, “The Situation Room,” “John King, USA,” “State of the Union with Candy Crowley” and “Reliable Sources.”

“We are delighted to welcome Eric back to Washington and to the CNN family,” said bureau chief Sam Feist. “His experience speaks for itself. He’ll be an invaluable asset as the network heads into the 2012 election cycle.”

Sherling first joined CNN in 2000 as a producer in the network’s Atlanta headquarters. He left for ABC News two years ago this week.

Patricia DiCarlo Named EP of ‘The Situation Room’

cnn-logo083110.jpgCNN’s “The Situation Room” is getting a new executive producer. Patricia DiCarlo, who had been senior producer on the program, is getting bumped up to EP.

The program’s previous EP, Eric Sherling, left to join ABC’s “Good Morning America” in November, 2009. CNN political director Sam Feist and two producers had been taking on day-to-day oversight since Sherling’s departure.

In a memo to staffers this morning announcing the move, CNN’s DC bureau chief David Bohrman and Feist had some kind words for the new EP:

Everyone who has worked with Patricia DiCarlo will agree that she is tenacious, full of ideas, full of energy, and a virtual force of nature. The energy and enthusiasm Patricia brings to everything she does will be a perfect fit as she takes the helm of the Sitroom. And we couldn’t be more pleased to have found our new executive producer within our own ranks.

Before joining CNN three years ago, DiCarlo was an associate producer on “The Oprah Winfrey Show.” She was also a producer at a number of local television stations, including NBC affiliate WFLA in Tampa Bay and Fox affiliate WTTG in Washington DC.

Feist and Bohrman’s full memo is after the jump.
