TNT Analyst Next In Line For Indiana Pacers Gig?

TNT NBA analyst Reggie Miller appears to be next in line for the role as president of the Indiana Pacers, according to Adrian Wojnarowski of Yahoo! Sports.

Larry Bird has said that he would step down after one more season in the Pacers’ front office. Miller has been with TNT since he announced his retirement in 2005.

Wojnarowski also mentioned a scenario (which would make more sense) where Donnie Walsh would come in and assist Miller.

Commentating about basketball for a living is one thing, running an NBA team is another.

Ratings Down 14 Percent for PGA Championship

Sunday’s final round of the PGA Championship on CBS drew a 4.3 overnight rating, a 14 percent drop over last year. Translation: The golf season’s final major tournament was seen in an average of 4.3 percent of U.S. homes in the top 56 markets.

Not surprisingly, CBS’ ratings peaked at 6.6 between 7:30 and 8:00 p.m. ET, when Keegan Bradley and Jason Dufner were engaged in a three-hole playoff. Bradley won by one shot to earn his first major title.

The absence of big-name players on Sunday’s leader board no doubt affected the ratings, as Tiger Woods missed the cut and Phil Mickelson tied for 19th.

Bradley, who was 108th in the Official World Golf Ranking heading into the tournament, became the first player since Francis Ouimet in 1913 to win his major- tournament debut in the U.S. Following the win, Bradley rose to 29th in the world rankings.

Elton Brand Producing Tupac Biopic

Sixers forward Elton Brand has signed on as a co-producer of Tupac, the upcoming biopic about slain West Coast rapper/poet/actor Tupac Shakur. The movie, which is currently in production, is being directed by Antoine Fuqua, director of Training Day. The role of Tupac has not yet been cast.

As noted by Philly.com, this isn’t Brand’s first foray into Hollywood. The former Clipper co-founded a production company when he played in Los Angeles, and according to a 2006 report from the Los Angeles Times, the company was slapped with four separate lawsuits in a year. Though none alleged any wrongdoing by Brand specifically, the report also claimed Brand spent $250,000 of his own money to settle one lawsuit.

Joe Tessitore and Teddy Atlas will call the action ringside from the Pechanga Resort Casino in Temecula, Calif.

ESPN’s Feb. 18 telecast from Salisbury, Md., marked the first time boxing has aired in 3D in the U.S.

“3D is most impactful when you have close proximity to the subject. Nothing offers closer proximity than boxing. It truly makes you feel like you have a ringside seat,” said Phil Orlins, coordinating producer for ESPN 3D. continued…

Modell’s is back with another video in their series where professional athletes pose as store employees and try to sell their jerseys to unsuspecting costumers. This time, New York Knicks rookie sensation Landry Fields goes into the field without much success (although he does put up a mini hoop and swat some shoppers).

Let us know in the comments who you think should be the next athlete to try his selling game.

And this is news why, you ask?

Because one of those names isn’t Sidney Crosby.

How Qatar Won the World Cup

Qatar won the right to host the 2022 World Cup. America (and most of the rest of the world) was angry and confused. How could a nation the size of Connecticut beat the United States, Australia, Japan, and Korea Republic? They must have cheated.

Then again, according to a story from ESPN.com contributor Brent Latham maybe not:

But look closer and you’ll realize that it might not be such a shock. You’ll see that Qatar, through a program called Football Dreams, has built a strong presence in many developing nations, some of which also have representation on FIFA’s executive committee that voted on the hosting rights for the 2018 and 2022 World Cup tournaments.

Indeed, despite relative obscurity in the popular consciousness of the Western world, Qatar has quietly been making a name for itself in international soccer circles. The country’s al-Thani ruling family has long showed an interest in international athletics, and in the past few years has invested a portion of its immense wealth in a quest to make Qatar competitive in a range of Olympic sports, including soccer.

As part of that vision, in 2004 the royal family funded the Aspire Academy project to train Qatari athletes with the best technology and resources that money could buy. Shortly after, as an offshoot of the academy’s soccer program, the Aspire Football Dreams program was launched to uncover youth soccer talent hidden in the farthest-flung villages and outposts in the world.

And those stadiums sure are nice.
