Katie Couric Shares Wedding Details on ‘Today’

Couric TodayKatie Couric visited her former show this morning to promote an upcoming “Stand Up To Cancer” telecast and share details from her recent wedding.

“For someone who’s generally fairly hyper, I was incredibly relaxed,” Couric told Savannah Guthrie about her wedding. “It was very small, very intimate…I hate to be shallow, but the weather was perfect.”

“I’m 57 years old; I didn’t want to be in some big confection, kind of floating down an aisle,” she said about her dress. “I picked it like five days before the wedding.”

And the former “Today” host was glad the big day wasn’t crashed—by former co-host Matt Lauer and radio host Howard Stern.

Piers Morgan To Howard Stern: Bill O’Reilly ‘is a dick’

CNN host Piers Morgan was a guest on Howard Stern‘s SiriusXM radio program this morning. As Stern often does, he got Morgan to open up about his future at CNN, and his thoughts on the competition.

Take for example this anecdote about Fox News host Bill O’Reilly, who ignored Morgan when the CNN host asked him to appear on his show, and then later asked if he would take a picture with his daughter.

“He’s not liking you because you work for CNN?” Stern asked.

“No, I think he is a dick,” Morgan responded.

Morgan did praise O’Reilly as a TV host, calling his program “fantastic” and saying he enjoys watching the Fox News host’s show.

Stern also asked Morgan about the reports that he would be leaving CNN. Morgan told Stern that he recently signed a contract extension that keeps him at the channel for an additional year.

What Brought Bill O’Reilly, Savannah Guthrie, Katie Holmes and Penny Marshall Together?

As the summer winds down there was one more big bash in the East End Saturday night. The Apollo in the Hamptons benefit brought in more than $3 million for Harlem’s famed Apollo Theater. The star-studded guests came from the worlds of entertainment, news and politics, reports Page Six. Including, Matt Lauer and Savannah Guthrie, “who was dancing on a chair by the evening’s end.” Bill O’Reilly, Jon Bon Jovi, Rep. Eric Cantor, Howard Stern, also, “Katie Holmes rocked out onstage with Jamie Foxx, Lenny Kravitz — and Colin Powell.”

Rachel Maddow On Shepard Smith, Howard Stern and ‘Drift’

MSNBC’s Rachel Maddow hosted a Reddit “AMA” today, answering questions from readers of the site. Among other topics, she talked about her book Drift, Howard Stern, and her surprising admiration for Fox News Channel’s Shepard Smith.

On her favorite anchor from a competing cable news channel:

I really like the way Shep Smith (at Fox News Channel) balances anchorman gravitas… with a willingness to put the artifice aside and acknowledge what it really going on. Some of us can pull off seeming like human beings on TV, some of us can pull off V.O.G. authority, but Shep is really very good at both. Better than anyone else, I think. Also, I’ve met him and he’s a nice person!

Jake Tapper Talked Jimmy Kimmel Out of Telling Santorum Joke at Correspondents’ Dinner

Jake Tapper with Elizabeth Banks and Paul Rudd at the 2012 White House Correspondents' Dinner

Jimmy Kimmel went on Howard Stern‘s radio show earlier this week and talked about some of the jokes he didn’t tell at last month’s White House Correspondents’ Dinner.

KIMMEL: I had some jokes about — like Rick Santorum. I said something like — well, I didn’t say it, but: Newt Gingrich’s campaign is so dead Mitt Romney wants to baptize it and Rick Santorum wants to put it in a jar and show it to his kids.

STERN: You didn’t want any abortion jokes?

KIMMEL: People went like, uh-oh. I ran it by people who go to this thing.

STERN: Who do you run it by?

KIMMEL: There’s a guy named Jake Tapper at ABC News, I ran jokes by him. He’s been there a lot of times. There are a few other people — reporters.

Tapper confirms, telling Yahoo’s Dylan Stableford, “I tried to help Jimmy with the temperature of the room. And yes, I thought that joke would cause the room to turn against him, perhaps even causing a stampede, with the Hilton getting in on the tar and feather concession.”

Howard Stern Talks ‘America’s Got Talent,’ and Kisses Matt Lauer, on ‘Today’

“America’s Got Talent” premieres tomorrow night on NBC, and Howard Stern stopped by the “Today” show to promote the show this week. Among other things, Stern talked to Matt Lauer about the criticism leveled at “America’s Got Talent” after Stern was announced as the newest judge.

“What a crazy idea to put me on a family show. Somebody at NBC should be fired for that, right?” Stern joked. “I watched the show, I’m a fan of the show. I’m not going on the show to disrupt the beauty of ‘America’s Got Talent.’ Because I love the show.”

At the end of the interview, Stern brought up the ratings battle between “Today” and ABC’s “Good Morning America,” prompting Lauer to jokingly say they were out of time. And that’s when things got a little strange:

Matt Lauer Cracks The Time 100

Fresh off of his new contract with NBCUniversal, “Today” co-anchor Matt Lauer is named one of the “Time 100″ most influential  people. As is customary for Time’s list, Lauer was profiled by a well-known colleague, in this case, “America’s Got Talent” judge, radio host and fellow Hamptons-dweller Howard Stern.

We all wondered, Was it over? It’s over, it’s over, he’s losing his hair! It’s got to be over! But we were wrong! The strength was still there, perhaps stronger still, crashing pillars to earth with innate strength and charm and class — Matt Lauer, 54, the anti-Samson, going up against pretty guys and girls, the hairy people. He was still the smartest, the strongest, the classiest. How? Why? This is a guy who never gives up! Why? How? ‘Cause he works his ass off and cares about everything he does. Adversity, begone! Katie leaves. Meredith leaves. Knuckleheads come and go. Matt is there and stronger still. Our leader, diving into treacherous TV morning waters unscathed by sharks, unstung by stingrays, impossible to harm ’cause our Matt is cool and relaxed and so we’re cool and relaxed and we can deal with the complexities of a presidential interview, a great sports event or the wacko.

Later on, Stern gets inappropriate, as he is want to do. Read the rest here, and see the rest of the “Time 100″ here.

Lauer also stopped by the Weather Channel’s morning show “Wake Up with Al,” yesterday, welcoming co-anchor Stephanie Abrams to New York.
