Cat Call From Fox News PR

FNCKittens_7.14.bmpInsiders at the Television Critics Association press tour in Los Angeles sent us this image. It’s a button with kittens and hearts and the phrase “Hugs and kittens from Fox News Media Relations.”

We’re told the buttons have been spread around the ballroom where Fox News Channel is holding its Q&A in front of the TV critics which began at 5pmET. The button is Fox’s way of saying, “We’re not as bad as David Carr makes us out to be.” But do you know what happens when kittens grow up? They scratch… hard sometimes. And it hurts.

Anyway, when we contacted the aforementioned PR types, they confirmed that the buttons did indeed come from them.

By the way, FNC political analysts Karl Rove and Howard Wolfson are among those on the Fox News panel. More coverage from our trade industry friends as they file their stories.

> More from an insider at the TCA: “The buttons apparently worked, because Carr’s article didn’t come up during the conversation, though the fact that many of the publicists in question were in the room may have had something to do with that.”

Wolfson Debuts on FNC, Murphy This Sunday

wolfson_7-11.JPGNew FNC contributor Howard Wolfson made his debut last night on Hannity & Colmes.

Sean Hannity was the first FNC personality to welcome Wolfson to the team. “Welcome aboard as a contributor,” he said. “I don’t think we’ll be agreeing often, but I don’t agree with guy next to me that often either.”

“That’s what makes for good television,” Wolfson said.

And on the other side of the ticket, former Sen. John McCain adviser Mike Murphy makes his debut as NBC News contributor this Sunday on Meet the Press. Murphy will be part of the panel featuring Harold Ford, Jr. and Andrea Mitchell.

Matthews Gives the “Wish Well” to Wolfson

matthews_7-9.JPGMSNBC anchor Chris Matthews gave the “wishing well” treatment to Howard Wolfson, whose days of playing Hardball are over, for now.

Yesterday it was announced Wolfson, one of Hillary Clinton‘s campaign strategists, was joining Fox News as a contributor.

“I think it’s the beginning of a beautiful relationship,” said Matthews. “Reminds me of a movie: it’s called Howard’s End.”

Another Clintonite Joins Fox News

wolfson_7-8.JPGFrom today’s Daily Newsfeed:

Another of the most visible faces of the Hillary Clinton presidential campaign has joined Fox News Channel, reports The Caucus blog on Howard Wolfson, one of Clinton’s top strategists, is expected to be announced as a contributor to the network today.

“I thought that Fox’s coverage during the primary was comprehensive and fair and evenhanded,” said Wolfson.

This comes less than a month after another Clinton supporter, Lanny Davis, signed with FNC. That leaves just Terry McAuliffe as the remaining free agent Clinton supporter who made regular appearances on the cablers during the primary season (CNN has Paul Begala and James Carville under contract already).

So, after all the fallout from the Carr column yesterday…it’s the New York Times that breaks a Fox News story?
