Former NPR Chief Vivian Schiller to NBC News?

Former NPR chief executive Vivian Schiller is closing in on a new job at NBC News, according to All Things D’s Peter Kafka. Kafka reports that Schiller would be tasked with overseeing digital special projects.

People familiar with the company say Schiller, who once ran the New York Times’ Web site, will report to NBC News chief Steve Capus. Both Schiller and NBC declined to comment.

Schiller resigned from NPR in March, following the release of an embarrassing undercover video shot by conservative filmmaker James O’Keefe.

PBS May Also Be Victim of Sting Video By Conservative Filmmaker James O’Keefe

NPR may not be the only public media outlet to be pranked by conservative filmmaker James O’Keefe. The NY Times reports that PBS also met with the fictitious Muslim group that claimed to be looking to to donate to their organization.

An NPR spokesperson told the Times that the executive that met the group investigated them and saw a number of red flags:

“Attempts to confirm the credentials of the organization proved unsatisfactory and communication was halted by PBS,” she said.

Last night, “The Daily Show took on the NPR/O’Keefe video, with Stewart calling O’Keefe “The Ashton Kutcher of the conservative movement”:

Activist James O’Keefe Tries to ‘Punk’ CNN Reporter

Conservative activist and filmmaker James O’Keefe tried to trick CNN reporter Abbie Boudreau into boarding  a boat filled with sex toys and other explicit material in an effort to prank her and the network.

The goal, apparently, was to get CNN to “report” on a fake news story–most likely about tea party racism–and then turn the tables when Boudreau showed up by attempting to “seduce” her on the boat:

CNN was alerted to the prank shortly before Boudreau was set to meet with O’Keefe. According to planning documents obtained by CNN, O’Keefe and his partners even had snappy dialogue written for the meeting on the “pleasure palace.”

Some of the quips were  ”I want to take you to a higher place, CNN must be a tough place to work, let’s make some headline love,” and “It’s not news, it’s CNN.”

David Shuster Interviews Andrew Breitbart and Eric Boehlert About James O’Keefe Arrest

MSNBC_1.28.jpg

On his MSNBC show this afternoon, David Shuster, anchoring from Louisiana, dove headlong into the coverage of the arrest of anti-ACORN video producer James O’Keefe, and three others earlier this week.

In back-to-back interviews, Shuster talked with Andrew Breitbart who published O’Keefe’s videos on his site, Big Government. Breitbart also reportedly pays O’Keefe a salary.

Shuster then interviewed Eric Boehlert of Media Matters for America, a Website that monitors conservative media.

Before the interview, Breitbart Tweeted, “I expect Shuster ambush. Already know its on ‘money trail’. But what other MSNBC gems can be expected now that Watergate Jr. is imploding?”

Shuster has been accused of having a bias in the story when he Tweeted his thoughts about what will happen to O’Keefe. “You will go to prison,” Shuster wrote. It was commentary that has drawn the ire of his MSNBC bosses.

In terms of balance, Breitbart got a lot more time for his side during the MSNBC interviews — about 7 minutes. Boehlert got about 3 minutes.
