Replacement Refs on Tap for ‘Reliable Sources’

Tomorrow on “Reliable Sources” Howard Kurtz tackles this week’s coverage of the NFL officiating story. Gregg Doyel of CBS Sports is his guest. On Friday, NFL commissioner Roger Goodell, husband of former Fox News anchor Jane Skinner, sent a note to the millions of NFL fans apologizing for the now-resolved labor strife.

I believe in accountability, not excuses. And I regret we were not able to secure an agreement sooner in the process and avoid the unfortunate distractions to the game. You deserve better.

As a lifelong fan, this wasn’t an easy process for anyone involved. I particularly want to commend the replacement officials for taking on an unenviable task and doing it with focus and dedication in the most adverse of circumstances.

Movin’ On Up: FBN’s Jenna Lee Lands Fox News Gig

Fox Business Network’s Jenna Lee is moving over to the Fox News mothership. Lee will become the new co-anchor of “Happening Now,” joining Jon Scott.

She is replacing Jane Skinner, who announced that she would be leaving Fox News late last month to spend more time with her family.

Lee was one of FBN’s original anchors when it launched in 2007, and before that worked as a news anchor and reporter for Forbes.com and NY1.

Update: Fox News has just put out a press release through BusinessWire, with statements from Lee and network Senior VP Michael Clemente. It is after the jump.

Jane Skinner Leaving Fox News

Fox News Channel dayside anchor Jane Skinner announced that she is leaving the network. Skinner made the announcement at the end of “Happening Now,” just before 1 p.m.

“This is my last day on the air at Fox. It’s been a thrill to have been a part of the incredible success of this place over the past 12 years that I’ve been here,” Skinner told viewers. “My life in the 12 years I have been here has changed significantly in wonderful ways and they’ve created a lot of new responsibilities. I added a husband [Roger Goodell] who has in the last couple of years become the NFL commissioner, and has a job even busier than mine. I have twin daughters, so to do justice to this new life I’ve decided to take a break from the business.”

Skinner’s co-anchor, Jon Scott, also weighed in on her departure:

O’Reilly Wants Gaga for ‘The Factor’

Bill O’Reilly wants Lady Gaga on his Fox News show ASAP.

On last evening’s “O’Reilly Factor,” O’Reilly sat down with Jane Skinner to discuss Gaga’s interview the previous evening on Larry King’s show — though, O’Reilly did also use the opportunity for a little swipe at the CNNer, saying, “Unfortunately, nobody watches Larry, so nobody saw it.” (Check out the ratings from King’s show on our Scoreboard.)

“Lady Gaga did turn down our request for an interview,” the FNC host admitted. O’Reilly doesn’t exactly pretend to be the pop-star’s biggest fan and said he was confused by her CNN appearance, but that doesn’t mean he wouldn’t love to have the “marketing genius” on the show apparently.

“Oh, man, I hope she comes on ‘The Factor,’” O’Reilly said at the end of the segment. “I’m gonna make an appeal now to Lady Gaga.”

Fox News’ Jane Skinner interviewed a woman named Ginger McGuire — which sounds like a name from your college roommate’s failed screenplay — on air Friday who “explained” her “lawsuit” against United Airlines for failing to wake her up after a long flight. Skinner seems to be left a bit speechless, and you might be also after watching this exchange. (h/t Mediaite)

How a Blimp Shot Made Bob Schieffer’s Day… Week… Year

Taking a Sunday morning public affairs show to the Super Bowl has its perks. For “Face the Nation” host Bob Schieffer it wasn’t talking to the commissioner of the league, or even being just inches away from the Lombardi Trophy, it was a blimp shot.

Anchoring from Sun Life stadium this morning, Schieffer interviewed NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell, husband of Fox News anchor Jane Skinner. Schieffer also talked with the NFL on CBS crew of Jim Nantz, Phil Simms, and Shannon Sharpe.

Sharpe was especially thrilled to be on.

“Never in my wildest imagination did I ever think I’d be on ‘Face the Nation,’ said Sharpe, who played with three winning Super Bowl teams. “My grandmother and sister are watching back home and all my friends and I’m on ‘Face the Nation!’”

But for Schieffer the highlight was having the first-ever blimp shot on “Face the Nation”. Responding to Sharpe’s excitement, Schieffer said, “Well, I’ll tell you, I never in my wildest dreams thought we’d have a blimp shot on ‘Face the Nation.’ They tell me we’re going to have one. So when we see it, we’ll all wave.”
